Super Meat Boy is like the spicy food that burns everytime you eat it but it is that burn that keeps you coming back. This is a 2D side-scolling platformer that is a throwback to the old school era of 8-bit gaming and reminds us why those classic deserve to be cherished, and at the same time carves out it's own spot among the best platform games ever created.
This game is hard. It's not for the feint of heart. If you are looking for a game that treats you like a baby and coddles you to get to the end, Super Meat Boy will slap you across your baby face and laugh at you as you go crying for your mommy. If you are like me, and enjoyed classics like Mega Man, Castlevania, Ninja gaiden, Battletoads, then this is your game.
The controls for this game are top notch and super tight. This is a precision platformer. The game is hard, but fair. You will die a lot, but after each death you are thrown right back in with no delay to try again. You will amaze yourself as your body and mind become one with the game and watch as you progress through a series of what seemed to be impossible obstacles. This game and playing through this game by trained hands is an art form to behold.
Speaking of which, Super Meat Boy sports probably the best soundtrack I have heard in any video game since probably Symphony of the Night. The sound track is loaded with energized electro merged with old school Nintendo music that will set the mood perfectly as you throw yourself into the 300+ levels the game offers.
