Rating this game 9.5 is not only a disservice to gamers everywhere, it's also the wrong message for developers.

-Story is entertaining.
-Does a good job of gradually introducing the basics of the game.
-The replay system is excellent.
-Hearkens back to the retro era when 2D was king. Unfortunately, so do a lot of other games.
-Harder than the nipples on a blind lesbian in a fish market. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy extremely difficult games so long as they involve using your head to think your way to a solution, but that's just it - this game doesn't involve thinking. It involves muscle memory and dying. Mostly just dying. And somewhere around the 50,000th death it simply stops being fun and becomes a reason to start smashing your skull against blunt objects. Or at the very least, a waste of time.
-Keyboard controls don't feel right, SMB's fast pace indicates that it was intended for consoles.
-No multiplayer or extra features, completely linear.
-Not much incentive to beat levels when you know the next level will be at least as difficult and just as tedious.
-A lot of indie developers are going to look at this game and say to themselves "Well, if I make another really hard platformer that everyone will spend hours trying to beat I can get rich without having to program anything complicated." When they should really be saying "I wonder what it would take to make a better game than Diablo?"
