Stretch your tongue, swallow your foe and lay an egg. Yoshi's Island is filled with fun and adventure.

Who would have thought Nintendo had the guts to make a sequel to Super Mario World without fear of disappointing their fans? SMW2: Yoshi’s Island proves to be as fun as its predecessor and puts yoshi’s abilities into full use.

Story: A stork was on its way to deliver 2 babies, Mario and Luigi. Then all of a sudden the evil Magikoopa Kamek emerged in order to kidnap the babies. While she was able to snatch Luigi, Mario fell all the way down to a small island called Yoshi’s Island. Mario then lands on the back of Yoshi. Yoshi then reads a note that also fell with the baby saying the baby was to be delivered. It was up to Yoshi and his friends to safely deliver Mario and rescue Luigi. Game design: The game’s story takes place before Super Mario World. Although Mario will make an appearance as a baby he is merely a cameo, since you will be controlling Yoshi through out the entire game. The sprites look a lot better than the previous game, Yoshi is given more personality than before and the great range of environments also look a lot more alive than before, since you can also see some background animations. The game’s theme is for very young audience, since the backgrounds will be more like a kinder garden chalk board. Game play: You will be placed on a map and in each world there will be a level separating each Yoshi from another, your goal is to basically take baby Mario to the end of each level and pass him on to other Yoshis. There are 6 levels (I think) to go through and in the end of each world there is a boss battle. There are also mini games placed through out the map that can give you bonus lives. Once Yoshi is hit he will lose Mario and will have around 6 seconds to get him back otherwise its game over.
Yoshi’s game play is almost completely different than in Super Mario World. Yoshi can now do a dash jump, where once you press the jump button in the air Yoshi can glide for a few seconds. Yoshi can stretch his tongue out and can convert enemies to eggs, which he can use to throw at enemies. Another new feature is Yoshi can transform to vehicles for a limited time once you hit certain bubbles.

Sound: The music is more children’s toned which does support the game’s theme and sound affects are also well presented.

Although the game was made to attract kids it is so much fun you probably wouldn’t care. Yoshi’s Island can provide you with hours of good platforming and fun, although it isn't as long as the previous game, it’s so good I don’t really know what else there is to comment about this game.
