I bought Super Mario Land 2 for the Game Boy on the 3DS E-Shop in June 2012. I got this game because I heard how good the game was and I love Mario games, so I decide to try it out. The story takes place after Super Mario Land when a fat person called Wario takes over Mario's Castle and scatters the 6 Gold Coins in different worlds. It's up to Mario to put an end to Wario's evil plans.
The gameplay is very simple; you must run from one side to another, just like previous Mario 2D platformers. You are given a few power-ups which are Mushroom, Fire Flower, Bunny Ears and Super Star. Mario also has the Spin Jump ability which is activated by pressing A and holding down on the D-Pad in mid-air, but you can only do this if you are Super Mario or Fire Mario.
I think that this game has a lot to offer for such a short game with the level design to the music and even the bosses. I think that this is a great game overall and is considered as one of my all time favorite Mario games on any Nintendo console. I strongly recommend this if you have not played it, as this is the example of what examples that platformers need to lead. This shows what Nintendo can do and how much effort they put into their games.
