The End is the Beginning

User Rating: 9 | Super Mario Kart SNES
The end of an era, rising rampant materialism, daytime t.v. talk shows, movies and music that turned curse words into nouns and pronouns. Yes true believer I'm talking about that dark period known as the '90s.
I was actually going to review another SNES classic, but I saw Mario Kart and could not resist. A friend "put me on" this classic when all I wanted to play was Sonic or Mario World. I was genuinely impressed. Nintendo really took advantage of that Mode 7? I think they called it. I can't recall who I used to play with. Probably Yoshi, Toad, Luigi. The racing was cool but the battle mode was what really impressed me. I notice the battle mode doesn't get much shine on the later Mario Kart titles. Why is that? I guess Nintendo needs to spruce it up because I haven't played battle mode since the 64 version and that was brief.
I can see how someone who didn't first play this version would overlook it. It holds up very well in my opinion. Alot of "classic" games I play don't. Nintendo pioneers again and everyone else plays catch up. Nintendo...you know you can't see them lol.
