Super Galaxy of Mario

User Rating: 10 | Super Mario Galaxy 2 WII

If you have been a Mario fan for long time enough, then you'll feel rather nostalgic when playing Super Mario Galaxy 2.

It looks like Nintendo felt the urge to make this new galactic adventure an extravagant recollection of everything we always liked about Mario.

First, we have Yoshi, Mario's dinosaur pet (who debuted in Super Mario World) and as much as star Mario is.

As we know, Yoshi's tongue is a "weapon" against enemies but, this time around, he'll be using it for a lot of things, specially funny ones.

The galaxies constantly remember you how Mario universe is rich and cute. Along with deep waters, lava lakes, snowy mountains and worlds made of blocks (references of Super Mario Bros), classic foes like Chomp, Bullet Bill, Goomba and Hammer Bros stand there to make sure that Mario's magic is, still, alive. Even though, wait for surprises (certain galaxies will make you smile due their high level of nostalgia).

Is nothing new that Mario will fight Bowser to get the Princess back (an eternal cliché that is only forgivable because of the game itself) and catch all the

stars, which now comes in 2 colors: gold and green.

The gold ones offer all kinds of challenge, although I still believe that the 64 version has the more difficult stars to get. The green ones are sorta hidden in the galaxies and a lot of them will test your spacial skills (no pun intended).

But the whole experience wouldn't be complete without music. While the 1st SMG came up with some original and beautiful compositions (although "Mario's Theme" could be heard through them), the 2nd just shower you with classics from a few Mario games. Some of them might not get the right arrange but still manage to bring back the glorious past.

Nintendo so overdid it that makes me question: with this much references of Mario's career in a game that already took him to another level

without ruining it, will they go for SMG3 or the "next game" is to innovate again? Let's hope the best!
