Super Mario Galaxy 2 is quite simply the best platforming experience on the Wii.

User Rating: 9.5 | Super Mario Galaxy 2 WII
At a first glance, Super Mario Galaxy 2 may seem like a sequel that offers more of the same, but I can assure it's most definitely not. It's everything its predecessor attempted to be and more.

[Insert cliche joke about the storyline being the same Mario storyline we've come to expect here]
Let's try a different approach, shall we? The story starts out similarly to the first SMG. Peach invites Mario to her castle so they can have sexy time, but Bowser interrupts said sexy time and kidnaps Peach, and now Mario must save her. Yes it's the same Mario story that's been used many times before, but it works just fine for the plump plumber.

The graphics have been improved from the first SMG. The environments are very colorful, more detailed, and push the limits of the Wii. The soundtrack isn't as good as the soundtrack of the first one, but it's still very good nonetheless.

The gameplay uses the same mechanics as the first SMG, but there's still enough new additions to make the mechanics feel new all over again, and aside from a few rehash galaxies, this game never feels like a samey sequel. The new power-ups, such as Yoshi and Cloud Mario, allow for levels to have unique designs made for the power-ups, which in turn keeps level designs interesting and fun.

SMG2 manages to be more challenging than its predecessor. This is especially true with the prankster comets, which are where most of the game's challenge come from. The prankster comets, however, can often times be too difficult for comfort, making them occasionally frustrating. This problem with the prankster comets doesn't pop up too often, but when these problems do pop up things can become very frustrating. This is more of a nitpick, however, and the occasionally insane challenge usually keeps things interesting. Aside from the prankster comets, some of the galaxies themselves can actually be challenging as well, especially in World S (curse you Stone Cyclone Galaxy...).

The co-op mode is greatly improved from the first one, and it's a lot more involving. A friend can jump in at any given moment and can play as a luma that follows Mario around and pick up items and stun enemies (or spin them out of control). The co-op feature helps make things easier at times when you want to get an item that's out of reach.

There is A LOT to do in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Even after you collect 120 power stars, you're STILL not done. I'm not going into details about it, but this game is going to keep you busy for a very long time.

Overall I can't recommend this game enough. If you have a Wii, SMG2 is a game that deserves to be in your collection. It's the best game on the Wii at the moment, and it's one of the best Mario games yet.
