Back in 1985, the original Super Mario Bros was released on the NES. It was a success, and has become the best selling game of all-time. Everyone had fun with the game when it first came out and many say it's one of the greatest games of all-time. Unfortuantly, as time went by the game was difficult to get hold off again and people were selling it away. However, when 1999 came Nintendo saved the day by giving them the opportunity to play this all-time classic again on their game boy color, while on the go instead of getting their old dusty NES out to play it.

Super Mario Bros Deluxe offers the entire 1985 Super Mario Bros game on your game boy color, with some minor features added into it, such as a save feature and an opportunity to play Luigi at any time on it. If you don't know what the gameplay of Super Mario Bros is, then you deserve to get shot and fly off this world! Everyone knows what it is, but I'll tell ya just in case. Basically, it's a 2D platformer where you have to go through all of these different worlds and levels to save the princess from an evil Koopa King named Bowser. Simple enough eh?
Of course, Mario has to have some moves to get through, such as jumping over obstacles, stomping on enemies, and running over large gaps this is simply what a 2D platformer should be and nothing else! When Mario is small he is vunerable to all enemies and will die in one hit. What can he do about it? He can hit blocks to get certain power-ups such as a Super Mushroom which makes Mario larger and a Fire Flower to make Mario shoot fireballs at his enemies. The other one is the star powerup which makes him invincible for a short period of time.
Mario must simply make it to the end of each level and hit the flagpole to finish the level. He might have to go underground or underwater to complete a level. He can also travel through some pipes to take him to hidden areas you wouldn't normally find. On the fourth level of each world Mario must defeat Bowser in order to go to the next world, but when he reaches the final level it's the final showdown between you and him. Luigi also does the same things as Mario but he works well in here.

But wait! There's more!. MORE!?!? You say more!?! Yep! When you reach a certain amount of points on the original you unlock a new mode "SMB for Super Players" which is basically Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. This is pretty much a harder version of Super Mario Bros and when I say harder I MEAN harder. This mode is much more difficult that the original and will take you a couple of days to complete as I'll guarentee that you will lose alot of lives on this mode! The last level on this mode is just ridiculously hard!
Another new mode is the "You Vs Boo" mode which involves you having to race a ghost to the end of a level. Simple? HAHAHAHA! Well, it's not! You might be faster than him but there are some new blocks which will prevent you from getting further through the level, and you have to keep hitting a switch to make then turn off. There's plenty of levels for you to race him and it's pretty challenging and fun.

You think that's it? Well, your wrong of course! There's also a Challenge mode where you have to find some red coins on each level. Sometimes this is really easy and sometimes it's hard. The reason is because these coins could be all over the place in a level! They could be in a secret area or hidden under a block! You won't be able to complete this mode without some sort of strategy guide because every single level is on the Challenge mode and sometimes it gets really tricky! This mode will make you replay the game trust me, it's a hell of a lot fun, and sometimes frustrating.
Another mode is the Toy Box, which has a variety of things on it such as a Photo Gallery where you can view various Mario pictures and print them off with your Game Boy Color. You have to unlock the pictures though and I'm not going to tell you how to do it. There's also a variety of other things in here but to be honest I haven't really tried this stuff out that much. You can comment and print some stuff out if you have a Game Boy Printer.

Now the graphics in this are a perfect NES port of the original. When I mean perfect, I mean perfect! The graphics are colourful, bright, and superb! You won't be disappointed with the graphics on this! Sure the Game Boy Color can pull off better graphics but when it's supposed to be Super Mario Bros what do you expect them to do? Make him 3D on the Game Boy Color?!? NONONO! The only minor modifications I've noticed on here are the water because it's animated now and there's a map screen of the world. Oh yeah, there's also some scrolling when you press up and down or select because the screen on the Game Boy Color is much smaller but to be honest it works really well and works efffectivly!
The sound as you would have expected is the same as the NES original. Such as Mario's jumping to the death noise when Mario dies. The catchy Mario theme tunes are still in here as well. In fact, this game probably has the best Mario sounds out of the lot. Simply stunning and yet classic sounds for a Game Boy Color. Can't really complain about it at all!

Now I don't really want to be captain obvious or anything but I think it's pretty obvious on what to do if you don't already have this game in your collection. BUY IT NOW! BUY IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN! If you have played the original or have never played it at all then this is instantly a must buy for you. Basically, everyone needs to have it! Not only are you treated with a trip down memory lane, but you'll also own one of the greatest games of all-time in your collection!. What a bargain! Anyway; BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT and have Super Mario Bros in the palm of your hands!
