The pinnacle of the mario series.

This is the game that really made Mario. The graphics were amazing at the time and almost SNES-like in quality. The amount of levels was enormous and the items such as frog-suit really added a new element to game play. This was the first game to ever offer diagonally scrolling screens so you could truly fly. This was really the first non-linear game in the mario series where you didn't have to play each level. Though you could play them all if you wanted. Mario has never had more abilities before this game and the games after have never quite been the same. This game stands tall on the gold medal stand with Super Maro Bros. World on the silver and Super Mario 64 on the bronze.
