Good collection, but I'm no sure why they didn't go with the All Stars + SMW version.

Super Mario All-Stars released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo. This contained SMB1 through 3 and The Lost Levels remade for the SNES. A year later, another version of All-Stars came out, this time with an updated version of Super Mario World. The original version of the game was re-released as part of Mario's 25th anniversary for the Wii. I got this as a Christmas present in 2010.

Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition honestly doesn't do much to update the game, if anything at all. Besides it literally being a port of the SNES original, all it has is a booklet containing Mario's history and a CD containing various music pieces from Mario's 25 years which is neat and all, but not enough. Don't get me wrong, I like playing Mario All-Stars as it refines the gameplay of the originals and updates them to give it a better look in general. But the problem is that the overall package is a little underwhelming.

I question why they didn't port the All Stars + Super Mario World version instead, as it had a little more in terms of content. Hell, add some extras into the game to make it worthwhile. The Kirby collection had extra challenges via Return to Dreamland and the Sega collections had unlockable extras too. How Nintendo thought that releasing a port of the SNES original with some booklet and a CD and charging £25 for it is kind of baffling to me.

Overall, its not a bad package, but it really wasn't the best way to celebrate Mario's 25th anniversary.
