Maxwell grabs a tanooki suit and races through this video review for Super Mario 3D Land on the Nintendo 3DS.
am I the only one who noticed according to this review, princess peach is captured by Voldemort?!
This is the most frustrating game I have ever played. Just trying to hold the 3DS in the perfect position while jumping, flying, and dodging seems impossible. I have never played a game with so many cheap deaths. I must say it is a beautiful game. The frustration level is just too high for my case.
I wish I could afford a 3DS. I can't recall a game I've wanted more than this.
Bloody stupid wedding!
Super Mario 3D Land is exactly what i expected it to be :) I like this game a lot more than NSMB, although that was still very enjoyable :) Glad i have it
How would you, Maxwell, have suggested they use the 3D functionality in more creative ways? I thought the sense of depth alone was outstanding, especially when standing far, far above the rest of the stage, looking down.
i reached the special stages, and they are awesome. The Game isnt to short and to easy. This just deserved a better rating - both zeldas, mario and mario kart - or all great nintendo games this year are underrated. Incompetent - somehow.
@Jonwh18. On the 3ds the game looks awsome. this and mario kart 7 are done injustice by their ratings.
can anyone with a 3ds confirm this question? This game looks better on the actually console right it looks really grainy in the review....
i have reached the second part of world 8, and its maybe not as long as most people would like it to be, its also a bit easy, but the levels are just great, there is no level that i not really like. All in all the levels are better than the one in the SMG titles, which had some very nice levels too, but always had some boring ones, SM3DLs Levels are very close in quality and fun to play - without any boring ones all levels disgend for just great jump and run action. 9.0 would be the right rating. well 8.0 isnt far way of that, but somehow a asskick for nintendo and its fans.
Almost everything in the full review is positive but the game only gets an 8? This has been happening a lot recently...
cant understand the ratings here one gamespot - why do you hate nintendo??? All thier good §ds games are just unterrated. °°°ed up site this is today.
no no no no no wait. At 4:25 he begins to talk about how the 3D is just used as "eye candy" here. I could not disagree more. The 3D actually has a huge impact on the gameplay throughout the entire game. In fact, there are some rooms in the game that REQUIRE the 3D to be on to interpret the dimensions of the room!
This game more than exceeded my expectations, which were already great to begin with. I'd give it a 9.5. The levels are incredible
just by watching the review I can give this game an 8.5 and place it as #2 in my 3ds want list (kingdom hearts 3d is #1)
@lilkev85: I'm picking the game soon but i think what the reviewer was expectins was more in line with what the game cards that come with the 3DS, like dragon game. That was one reason i bought my 3DS, i was pretty impressed with the 3D feeling. And so far i never experience similar scenario. Its a real shame as its a pretty neat feature.
i don"t agree with gamespot score 8.0 (n) !!! it must take At least 9.0 and more (y)
Jesus guys I've read about 20 comments about how the game should be more challenging... Just because we are in our twenties/thirties and have grown up with Mario and played maybe about 1000 other videogames in our life, that doesn't mean Mario isn't still a game FOR ALL AGES, including my 8 year old sister. If you expect Dark Souls difficulty out of it, you are seriously wrong. This game is meant to be fun for all the family, and low difficulty is to be expected. Also, about the gyroscope and the street pass, I seriously disagree with the reviewer and strongly believe they shouldn't be a core element in any game. Street pass because not all love carrying their 3DS anywhere further than their couch, and gyroscope because once overused, you'll have to move around all the time like a maniac, and lose the good old option of playing in your bed and relax. Finally, the 3D effect is AMAZING, I don't know what people expect out of it, but this is just meant to be eye-candy, not virtual reality. This isn't Matrix, it is a Nintendo handheld. Stop being so harsh on the 3DS, it is an amazing system and its (really short) list of titles is getting better and better as time goes by. My advice: Add 1 point to each 3DS review you see on this site, except maybe SFIV.
this game deserves a better score than 8. its the best game on the 3DS, its even better than OoT.
@Bakutakamine But remaking a game from 1 year ago on the same console is worth more? (Modern Warfare)
@fiend_warrior Because a remake of a twenty year old game on a 3D plane and still calling it great is hash.
@Gelugon_baat It was a joke. I dont agree with his opinion but he doesnt agree with mine as simple as that.
I was excited when hearing of this game last year as the 3DS was making it's new all over gaming sites. When the game came closer to it's release i was loosing interest. As it would be that same old classic side scroller game. I was hoping for something more like Mario N64, open world adventure style. I played this game for a few hours, grew bored of it almost instantly. Every level is the same, you get the Tanukii suit and you can skip almost any slightly challenging points. I rated the game as a 6, but i've already returned the game after putting it down on the 8th world. It was way to repeatative of a game for me to consider keeping. Maybe the Resident Evil 3DS game will make me keep my N3DS, because at the moment, it's just like the Wii, and collecting dust. =/
Having never touched a 3DS or any 3D capable device - how are they supposed to more creatively support 3D? Unless you can physically put your hands inside the screen and interact with game, I dont understand what the reviewer was expecting from the 3D beyond aesthetics. Has there been other games which cleverly incorporated 3D??
Review guidelines say that scores are constantly updated scale. Therefore an 8 for this game is the equivalent of giving a 9 to something like NEW Super Mario Bros for the DS. In other words, if the game is just as good as a previous game the score will be lower - it has to be better to achieve a higher score.
Whats up with all these low scores gamespot has been giving to these AAA titles. I'm just confused. Most these games deserve at least a 9.
First I read the score and I am like "mm Okay, lets see why it didnt get a 9 or a 8.5". I checkout the "bad" section and it just says "limited gyroscope and streetpass features". Now, like it happened for Zelda before, I would be perfectly fine with the score if there wasnt plenty of Gamespot reviews giving 8.0 to games inferior to this one, and 9.0 to games less creative and original than this one.
The special stages are especially tougher than the original stages, which is nice for those who want a more challenging experience. Hopefully this won't be the last Mario adventure game on the 3DS.
The tanooki suit is on e of the strong powerups in that you can fly and transform in to a statue.
Completed the game the same day I bought it, deff worth the money, just extremely fun, is all I can say. nothing wrong with that, it was challenging on certain levels but overall not a very hard game but very enjoyable, beautiful visuals that the 3d really works well with. Infact without the 3d it doesn't play as well, this game really is made for 3d and imo, it is the first ads game to properly utilise the 3d effect, it is true that in certain areas without the 3d would be hard to judge. Brilliant game.
@thenerd64 this game im talking about the challenge stages after the games completion
I wish there were more levels, and more costumes! And I don't remember seeing those caterpillers :/
This game makes me think that the 3DS - esp with the 3D on - has better graphics than the Wii.
Yeah they gave the new Zelda 7.5 saying the controls were bad, but every other site says the controls are the best part.
@StSk8ter29 dude its a Mario game. its for kids old enough to hold a 3DS are you really surprised the game wasn't a challenge? Mario has always been just about fun
Quite frankly after playing through this game I thought IGN's score was a bit high at 9.5. However, I still would rate it half a point above this review at 8.5. I say this because the game doesn't really start to get challenging until you beat world 8.
