An excellent addition to any Genesis library.

User Rating: 8.3 | Super Hang-On GEN
Hang-On is one of those games I remember from its arcade days. It was hard to miss a mock up bike you sat on as you played to game that served as the means to control the game. I really didn’t play it since it always seemed to have a line of people wanting to play it. When I got my Genesis, Super Hang-On had been out for a few years and I picked it up for a bargain price. I was just expecting a simple racing game that I could kill a few minutes on here and there, but instead I found a game that had a surprising amount of substance to it.

Graphically, Super Hang-On is above average for an early generation Genesis game. The graphics are large, bright, and colorful. Super Hang-On has a basic soundtrack and the sound effects are adequate. Mostly you will be hearing the sound of bikes being pasted, engine sounds, and tires squealing, but that is what you would expect from a racing game. There are two modes: arcade and original. Arcade mode is basically a get on with the race mode. Original mode is where most of the game lies. You start out with a basic bike and work your way up earning money for upgrades. This is a pretty steep mode as far as games at the time are concerned. This doesn’t have the depth of Gran Turismo, but Super Hang-On does offer quite a bit for a game that was released in 1989.

A Genesis collection wouldn’t be complete without certain games. Super Hang-On is definitely one of those games. It may be an overlooked classic game, but it is a classic game nonetheless.
