A Good Game Ruined by Crippled Controls

User Rating: 7 | Return of Double Dragon SNES
To this day,the Double Dragon series ranks among some of the finest games ever produced, with Double Dragon and Double Dragon II on the NES standing out as the best games in the series. When the SNES was released, it was only natural that one of Nintendo's Flagship series would eventually recieve a game on the new console, that game would eventually become known as Super Double Dragon.

Over all Super Double Dragon is a fairly straight forward beat um up, you control the Double Dragons Billy and Jimmy Lee and traverse a variety of levels, beating up street gang members. Graphic wise the game is pretty good, adding a lot of detal not seen in the NES games. However it's best features are improvements over many of the flaws present in the previous installment of the series, Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. Among these are giving the player continues, and more then one life, which is a major improvment, owing to the game's difficulty.

Dispite the improvements Super Double Dragon has over it's predicessors, it has it's fair share of flaws, the worst of these being the controls. The controls in this game, are horribly crippled, which make preforming special attacks all but impossible, and many basic attacks have the feeling of being delayed. The controls also make picking up weapons dropped by enemies incredibly difficult. The worst feature of the controls is, if you get hit by an enemy, you're essentually defensless.

Despite these flaws, Super Double Dragon still has the feel of a Double Dragon game, and will appeal to die hard fans of the Double Dragon Series, and fans of the SNES in general.
