I have been a huge fan of the Suikoden world ever since my brother came home with the first one and asked me to try it out. I love and adore the first two, that is exactly the style I look for in and RPG, what no longer available is.... :-( But this one also stands up there with me. I really enjoyed 3 but was let down by Suikoden 4, just like a lot of people were, and I was hoping that Suikoden 5 would be a lot better. It met my expectations and then some. I realize the constant fighting is annoying when one just wants to get somewhere quickly but I feel that adds to a game as well. The story is above all the best part. It takes you into the Cyndar civilization which is the huge mystery in every Suikoden game and explains just enough to keep our hopes up that we might get to understand these people... in the game. I really also just enjoyed the mystery and intrigue surrounding both sides of the war. One got to see not just the opposing side as monsters and haters, but also as people who were fighting for their cause as well. The added cut scenes and endless possibilities with many cute extras put this game into one of my favorites pile next to my console. Definitely a game I will play again.
