In love with the Suikoden Universe. But unfortunately this game belongs to Suikoden! Like a black sheep of the family!

User Rating: 3.5 | Genso Suikoden IV PS2
I started playing Suikoden 1 back in '96 with my brothers. We fell in love with the game and its aspects right away. Then we found out at the end, that we had missed some characters, and that just added even more exhilaration for us to the game, making us want to play it over and over again until we found all 108 Stars of Destiny. (That was before one just went online and checked on how to beat a game in some forum)

The love for the Suikoden games rose as Suikoden 2 came out and then exploded with the masterful Suikoden 3. I moved to Germany and had to wait for number 4 with anticipation. I pre-ordered it out of America and pushed into my playstation the day it came in the mail. I think I even cancelled work to be able to play it.

And then it happened. My love, my joy for the series was destroyed. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING!

There is not one thing about the game I like. The pirate theme songs for every village are way out of whack creating drumming droll songs stuck in your head for days.

The game play with only 4 characters...WHY! Suikoden is based on a 6 character play basis. This is not FF! It is supposed to be something totally different. And it was... unfortunately.

The story is lacking depth as I see it , and the constant small random battles are a joke. Every two feet you are fighting against stupid monsters, which are nothing if you cheat and just level up to 99 which is a lot easier than many say it to be.

This game came as a total disappointment, and am happy to have it as it completes my collection of Suikoden Games. But only for that reason.

Unless you too are a die hard Suikoden gamer, than just stay away from this game!
