Auto Modellista is the kind of game that you play for an hour, then never play again. Ever. Auto Modellista is the crappiest game in my PS2 collection (with the exception of Midnight Club 2). The one and only good thing about Auto Modellista is its graphics. It has some of the best graphics I have ever seen on a racing game. The cel shading is done to near perfection; too bad nothing else is. With the graphics being the only good thing about this game, I'll start with that. As anyone who has seen this game can tell, Auto Modellista has near flawless graphics. The cars blow me away. The racing environments aren't that great, but they are still average, if not, above average. However the worst thing graphic wise for this game is that besides it being cel shaded, there is nothing special graphicly. There are no special effects such as real time reflections or anything of the like to help this game out any more which is a real shame. Gameplay wise, Auto Modellista could have been MUCH better. The controls are absolutely horrible; everytime you turn your car, it spins out of control. It's ridiculous. The horrid controls take out all the fun of this game and just kills it. The controls make the game ridicolously hard, the online play worthless, and the arcade mode not worth the bother. Stepping away from the controls, the game lets you quite exstinsively customize your car. However this is really just not enough to make up for the horrible controls. I know I keep ranting on and on about the controls, but if it weren't for the controls being so horrible, the game would actually be very enjoyable. The sound in the game is bad, but nonetheless, it's the second best thing about this game. I have no idea why, but I kind of like the screaming Japanese guy at the menu, even though he is annoying. However, the cars' sound effects are almost as bad as the controls. You won't really notice how bad the sound effects are until you test drive one of your garage cars. While test driving, no background music plays. The background music covers up for the horrible sound effects, so until you test drive a car in your garage, you won't notice just how lame the sound effects are. As for the music, the music is fairly decent, if not, slightly above average. Oh, and before I forget, the save feature in Auto Modellista is about has useful as an eight track player. The game doesn't autosave, and never reminds you to save which will often leave you turning off the game forgetting to save. When everything is said and done, Auto Modellista is a horrible game that had a whole lot of wasted potential. Even though it has absolutely stunning graphics, this game should be avoided at all costs. This game isn't even worth its cheap eight dollar price tag of today. Seriously, don't waste any money on this game, only get it if it's a freebie.
