Simply one of the best Historical RTS

User Rating: 10 | Stronghold: Crusader PC
Stronghold Crusader mixes the fun of a combat style RTS such as Age of Empires with the depth of a city building game such as Pharaoh or Caesar.

1. Gameplay - The game has been set up in Arabia around the city of Jerusalem. You can choose to be a crusader or an Arabic lord. In either cases, you will be see a lord (that's supposed to be you) walking around in your city. The basics of the game are simple. You start off with a stronghold that constantly produces citizens (actually the citizens are migrating to your petty stronghold). Anyways you will have to provide them with food, ale, religion and obviously you'll get them to do these work for you and in return you'll be collecting taxes from them. You also have to recruit them as soldiers. You have a population cap that is governed by the number of hovels you have. Also you'll have to keep your people happy by providing them with large amount of food, ale, religion, etc. This way your popularity will increase, and you will never have a shortage of labor. You'll also have to defend your stronghold from raids and attacks by your enemy. This'll have to be done by building walls, catapults, moats and all other sorts of these things. A simple point and click interface allows you to interact with the game environment even more easily.

2. Story - Well there isn't much of a story here. You are either a Crusader or an Arabic Lord and have to do your bit in the ongoing war of the Third Crusade.

3. Music - The music was totally uninspired and a total letdown for me. The sound effects were however bearable. A little work had to be done here.

4. Graphics - Nothing worth mentioning. Just as ordinary graphics as is expected from a game of that time.

A good game and I'll advise you to buy it and play it.
