As an old fan of the Stronghold-series I always enjoyed the sandboxy gameplay and the great variety of maps which were the things the games could boast. With Stronghold 3, there's no Skirmish, only Free build (who wants to build without opposition?). There's only a few maps, although there is still a map editor and the potential is there. Seems like the focus of this one was malplaced on the campaign: Adventure style predetermined RTS gameplay. Sure, the story of Stronghold was fun (!) but I don't think many ever took it seriously and pretty much played the campaign to get psyched up about skirmish and mp which they would spend 97 % of their time on.
Only Multiplayer seems to appeal me, although the lack of maps here is also very apparent. I'm giving it a 7 for the great potential it has, though. If only AI was added to free build, making it skirmish, this game would be well worth the investment with countless hours of gameplay that would not be foreseeable.
So all in all, not a bad effort on FireFlys part. There's "just" a core feature missing, and the game suffers as a result.
