Seth Killian dropped by to play some Street Fighter X Tekken, so we got him to address the fan backlash against the game's gem system and its balancing, as well as talk about how they're going to be a positive thing for advanced play.
this sounds pretty good. like the gem system in WoW. it doesn't make your character have an instant win button but it gives u more options that you otherwise wouldn't have.
so...DLC/pre order gems are the problem? Iron Curtain Pack Iron Wall lvl 2: +20% defense. 15s. Get hit by 8 normal moves. Normal Iron Wall lvl 2: +20% defense. -10% attack. 15s. Get hit by 8 normal moves. Cross Arts Pack Iron Wall lvl 2: +20% defense. 15s. Get hit by 3 special moves. Normal Iron Wall lvl 2: +20% defense. -10% attack. 15s. Get hit by 3 special moves. Lightning Legs Pack Immense Power lvl 2: +20% attack. 15s. Connect with 10 normal moves. Normal Immense Power lvl 2: +20% attack. -10% speed. 15s. Connect with 10 normal moves. World Warrior Pack Divine Speed lvl2: +20% speed. 15s. Connect with 4 special moves. Normal Divine Speed lvl2: +15% speed. -8% defense. 15s. Connect with 4 special moves.
...like learning the combos and match-ups aren't hard enough already, no, forget you, we're throwing in some gems, yet another thing you have to learn and worry about. smh This game is going to be way to freaking complicated.
Katsuhiro Harada with his 8 years later tekken games tekken tag 2 should of already been released
dragonuv better be in this i seen his arm and glove we better not have to pay for him on dlc reveal him next week seriously u already didnt put bruce irvin or adon in this
cool wierdness and people achually having fun with the game is what Street Figher is all about tekken is a little different...
@Ivory-Dynamite - Well, we're talking about Seth Killian, one of the biggest advocates of spamming and other cheap techniques... ever.
The gem system sounds like cheating (spaming) but I guess I'll give it a shot. But I really want Tekken X Street fighter not the other way around might wait untill that comes out?.
It would be great if they put an option to enable or disable this gem system.
Providing Capcom can keep the gem system balanced. This could be a huge step forward in the meta game as far as competitive play. Anyone who has followed MvC3 knows what I mean. Someone comes up with a seemingly unstoppable team combination. So everyone finds ways to counter it, said team seems less unstoppable, and them someone finds a new "unstoppable" team, repeat. It's this constant tug of war that makes the competitive scene what it is. The gem system has the potential to extend that to levels we haven't seen before. Again, as long as Capcom can keep it balanced.
It seems like gems are just a way to keep people spending $5 a month to keep up with all the new gem packs that come out. I guess we will have to wait and see, but for now, I'm very skeptical, even after watching this video.
@manuelg89 You must be a young gamer; gems are nothing new at all; a lot of the old vs games. This is nothing to help advanced play; this is stupid; we're going to figure out the best gems to use for the best characters and we'll ALL use it. Creators are simply brain dead these days.
All my faith in SF died back in 4 where Guile had an uncounterable combo of Sonic Boom + Flash kick when he played against Cammy. Huge advantage, almost impossible to counter.
Can the gems mode be turned off...pleeeeease make it so.
Whether the gem system ends up being good of not i'll have to wait and see, but more importantly i see and respect their genuine attempt to advance the genre. Whether it falls on its face or becomes the next big thing i respect them for trying something new, which is more than i can say for most modern big-budget titles.
What I find strange is a lot of people hate gems - they stay in. A lot of people loved Cross Assault where you could control two characters - and Capcom removes that and instead makes the 2nd character CPU-controlled. :|
@0morte It's been three years. Time to put this joke to rest, guy.
Simplicity is key to a good fighter, unfortunately this game feels the need to keep up with other genres and their ever more complicated systems of gameplay.
I think most of the hardcore players are looking at this the wrong way. I'm sure the developers have put a lot of focus into tweaking the gems so that nothing is ridiculously over-powered and I personally feel a whole new layer of depth to the fighting is a good thing (my inner RPG player loves the idea of deep character customizing). The best part is that no one said you HAVE to use the gems. That being said I'm sure there will be no gem tournaments and I think they should implement a no gem playlist to join for online play if you hate it all that much. Pretty excited to sit down with all my buddies and customize our characters and have couch tournaments like we do with MK (2011) and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Seth has the raddest cowboy boots.
did he say that he wana play with tiger hoods balls LOOL XD
I was buying this game, but then I saw that Tekken Tag is coming in December. Gems are a dumb idea btw, more if you have to buy it.
It is also seems that he is try'n to make excuses already for a broken fighter!!! Why else would they add this Gem system?
This guy is the video is the type of person I hate to play Fighting Games with!!
@Aentikraist I agree. While the gem system may be fun, there should be a non-gem mode.
I guess we have to wait for DLC or the next 'edition' for Lei Wu Long... Maybe they'll add Gen too as a counter to Lei's styles.
as usual for capcom gonna wait 2 years for the SUPER ARCADE ULTIMATE STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN and see what it really happens when u get 3d fighters in a 2d battle
@eshtebala "defence" in proper english "defense" in US english.
i dont care about you give lame players the Best gemes in the woorld if they are bad players they`ll suck till the end i just want a classic Non gm fighting mode just gives an option to turn it Off the gem system if ts a good system then we ll pick it up and play it but give that option t turn the gems OFF thats simple... why and Imperative gameplay thats silly
defence or defense ?!
Since this is capcom we're talking about making this game, is there another version coming along the way? I'm one of those tired of the ploy of getting another version a year or so later.
Gems are truly outrageous. They are truly truly truly, outrageous. On a serious note, no Lei?
Where is "Adon"??????????
Gems sound cool, and I get what he's trying to explain with his golf analogy. Sounds like it will add more variety to the gameplay.
I like that they're designing the game with tournament level play in mind, but I think the idea of doing a mash up like street fighter and tekken is already a big transition from either game and already has a lot of new stuff to take in, a lot of adjusting, and with the roster and the moves to add, tweak, it would already have a ton of depth and room to experiment without throwing in an entirely new system into the mix. If anything, I think that gem stuff should be a separate game mode like playing Soul Calibur with or without the use of buffs from your equipment.
LOL no thanks :) i don't want your DLC. for me, 60$ is already too much for a SF game.
Think of how sweet your victories when be when you take someone down who has all the "good" gems and you aren't using any. True skill > gear.
We're just going to have to be smart with our gems, is that so hard? If you loose because someone scored all of their gems and you picked the wrong ones, you don't blame the gems being in the game. I love the idea, I hope it is well implemented.
This is the first I've heard of it but it sounds interesting.
@psychomas I know that feel bro. If there is an option, no one will touch the regular mode with gems.
If there is a mode for a no gems online match, it's all good with me! the day is getting closer, time to dust off my fighter stick.
matter of fact if you have arcade edition you probably dont need another street fighter ever again.
just dont buy it simple lol. Youve got arcade edition, what the hell do you need this for?
As long as there's an option or mode to ditch all that "gems boost" i'm ok with it, otherwise well.....
i played that game and didnt like it its very bad with the easiest inputs and links ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VH82j97zF0
This is honestly a look-over for me if I cannot fight someone with a stock character. How level is the playing field if someone can buy 30%+ damage output? >.>
the basic idea of gems is bad. if 2 players play the same character only difference between them should be their skill, not the gems that they bought for real money. fighting games have always been about skill and it should stay that way.
The first Tekken title that comes to PC :) and I'm glad Capcom did it.
If they don't have Hwoarang and Bryan Fury in it im not buying
I don't like the idea...but i'm willing to keep an open mind about this, the game looks fun so hopefully Capcom won't screw it like they know.
