This is the kind of Street Fighter I remember playing.

Back in the day when I had a Sega Genesis, one of the best games I had was Street Fighter. As i remember it, that is all there was to the name of the one I had. It had two characters in which I can not even remember because they were only in that game. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting for the Wii's virtual console is the closest I have become to being able to enjoy Street Fighter the way i could before. The thing that stands out the most over the previous SF game to be released on the Virtual Console is the 4 now-playable characters. (Balrog, Vega, Sagat and of course M.Bison.) The controls also feel a bit more responsive and fluid, making for easier execution of combo-moves. Just like the last one, the difficult ramps up very steeply once it is set around 4 or 5/10, though it is a real accomplishment to even beat the game on these difficulties. If you are going to purchase an SF game from the VC, i strongly recommend this one.
