You'll find some good solid fighting action in Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting. That said this game doesn't last long.

I'll admit I never had the chance to play the original arcade or SNES versions of Street Fighter II, or any Street Fighter game for that matter. The last 2-D fighting game I played was a Mortal Kombat game in the mid 90s, I thought it was fun, but never played it again. Then I saw that Street Fighter II was coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, and now that its finally out I'm impressed with it.

The graphics look pretty good for how old they are. It looks like the developers might of touched things up, but I wouldn't know. Animations look surprisingly good and flow together nicely most of the time. The characters actually look really good considering the age of the game. The backgrounds look pretty good and are a nice touch to the game. Some of the moves you or your enemy perform, may not look as if they were going to connect but they do. Same goes for if it appears as if you kicked the guy in the face and it didn't register though it is very rare for this to happen.

Street Fighter's sound effects are pretty good for they're age just like the graphics were. The punches and kicks sound good. Moves that require characters to speak sound good, but the character usually doesn't, but it really isn't a big deal. The music of Street Fighter is pretty much what you'd expect from an arcade game, where it fits the game but doesn't have a very clean sound to it. My biggest complaint is the India stage with the elephants roaring it gets really annoying, other than that the sound is pretty good.

There is a pretty good amount of value with Street Fighter II. The online modes are fun as long as people don't quit. Leaderboards add some competition with friends and such. The achievements will probably be a challenge to get for most people, and they may make quit playing the game for a while or make you play the game more. The cost of Street Fighter is ten bucks and may seem overpriced to some people, but to me its worth the buy just based on the fact that it's an old classic.

The gameplay of Street Fighter II is really simple, which is obviously to beat your opponent until he or she is knocked out. There are three rounds, unless you win the first two, so it is best of three rules. There are Twelve characters in Street Fighter II and most of them have similar moves to at least one other character in the game. There are no combos to be performed in the game, but some moves require you to use your D-pad or analog stick a certain way then us a punch or a kick, and you'll perform a special attack. I suppose some of the moves you may consider these combos, but I really don't consider them to be combos. The arcade mode puts you through a series of twelve matches and will probably be really difficult, even on the lowest difficulty. The difficulty of the game really doesn't seem to make a big change whether your playing on no stars or 7 stars, but there is some change its just not too noticable. The AI is just too good even though they can be pretty predictable. The levels to get harder as you advance through them, even though it isn't the same order of characters every time. You can try out training mode to sharpen up on your special moves and other stuff like that if you're having trouble. You can also play versus with a friend offline if you want.

Now to the online mode. Online in Street Fighter II is really fun and less predictable than the arcade mode. You play ranked or just play unranked with a friend. Quarter matches provide for small tourney like matches, as it rotates between people fighting. The online leaderboards provide competition between players for the ranked matches and only apply to ranked matches. The online is pretty much lag free, from what I've experienced with it so far, so everything runs smooth. Though I do have problems connecting to matches which is crap, but I can deal with it, and you should be able to too.

Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting is a good solid 2-D fighter and challenging to boot. It'll be a game you'll want to have in your arcade collection; that is of course if you like 2-D fighters or fighters in general.
