I've lost all faith in Capcom, RE4 was one of the greatest games i have ever played, but after that they just began proliferating garbage into the market. Overdone action sequences, unbelievable plots, and a lack of final tuning in all of their titles exasperates me. Dark void, lost planet 1 & 2, re5. Sigh.

I have an xbox 360, ps3, wii, etc.  the xbox is def showing its age but nowhere near as shitty as the wii ( and yet somehow nintendo keeps coming out with decent games) dont get me wrong nintendo I love every second of it but.... anyways the ps3 is a way better system tech wise..... please before you attack realize I SAID TECH WISE..... but I prefer the xbox layout of things... sony needs to make their interface a little more user friendly imo.  this game looks like it sucks but i dont know ive never palyed it.  the kinect seems flawen in general to me response wise the ps move works pretty good but meh.... i dont know

Why should a simple review turn in a fully fletched console fanboy war? I own a PS3 but will never think or even say that PS3 is better, 360 sucks etc. I think the kinect has yet to show it's full potential but sadly most games for kinect aren't very good which is a shame. I still think that this game controls slightly better than LAIR which was virtually unplayable :3

@Raikoh182 Kinect showed me it's full potential before it was even released. I've played enough Webcam games in the early 2000's to know what is impossible for it to do. People have just been fooling themselves into believing the Kinect would be something revolutionary, with the aid of Microsoft's marketing team.

I'm so glad somebody made this, even though it seems well below par. This is where games are going (full control with your body).

It takes one first-mover visionary that does a terrible job to usher in the Apples of the world that copy, perfect and realize the dream.

@rykeut apple introduced the smartphone and got it right the first time, though...

GuiltyRevolt

@blackrunie  This is old, but the first smart phone came from IBM called Simon in 1995. Then Android got into it with the Blackberry, there was the Trio... The first iPhone came out in 2007, over a decade later from the first attempt. What apple did was copy all the things that worked and put a gleam on it.

Rykeut is right. There needs to be a lot of mess ups before someone actually gets this perfect. Just like how Wii bumbled forth with motion control, realized how to make it better with Motion Plus, and then is continuing to refine it with the Wii U. It might not even be Nintendo who perfects it. It might be even a PC company that does it, but we do need the mis-steps.

bleh

more kinect shovelware.

There are few games it gets right, yet everything MS sells now is labeled "Better with Kinect Sensor"

@Lamegaysoit I don't think a simple patch can magically make the Kinect suck less.

rykeut
rykeut

@capthavic Agreed that Kinect sucks for gaming right now, but Kinect is new technology (motion control mass produced and affordable for consumers). How often is new technology done well the first time? Remember how lame MP3 players were in the '90s? Kinect is going to lead to Kinect 2, which will ultimately lead to what we're all wishing Kinect is.

This reads like a rant against your comment, I know, but really it's me wishing the future would get here more quickly.

LandauTST

@rykeut Well the thing is Kinect really isn't even as bad as a technology as it is. Yes, it can be improved upon, but as it is it's an amazing piece of tech that has inspired many uses outside of gaming. It's up to developers to program their games correctly. It has been done, but most developers either don't have a grasp on the technology or are just lazy about it.Sorry, I'm not saying you're doing it or anything, but I still just get tired of people blaming the hardware for a crappy game.

capthavic
capthavic

@rykeut Oh I feel the same way, if only we had a holo-deck like in one of the commercials for this game. My problem with the Kinect is that the tech just isn't ready for anything more complex or demanding than very casual games like dance or exercise games. Kudos to the devs for aiming for the horizon but they failed to notice the gaping chasm right in front of them.

@Lamegaysoit you're an idiot, aren't you? a game isn't supposed to come out half-way done and then made sort of decent later. they review a game as is, as it should be. fun thing is, you probably haven't even played steel battalion...

I kinda feel that the Kinect is good enough for games where only your body/hands' motion (waving hand) matters. E.g Dance Central. However, it fails in games where both the motion and the position with respect to objects in-game (waving hands at the exact point A on screen) are required. E.g this game.

@buccomatic only for games where tight, responsive and precise control is required.

For games like Kinect Sports, Kinect Adventures, Dance Central it's good enough.

Looks like a great concept poorly executed.  I enjoyed the review, especially the hilarious finale; nice touch.  I don't play consoles, but these motion capture games are intriguing.   I think the game programming needs to catch up to the motion technology.  It might be a generation before we see good games of this sort, but that way is the future of gaming IMO.

@Exquisite More like a horrible concept that should've never been executed.

And you have it backwards. Motion technology needs to catch up with game programming. Developers have been making great games for decades, so they obviously know how to program games.

Motion controls are the problem. They are a sidestep to what the future will actually be. Standing in your living room, moving your arms or legs with no real feedback or connection is stupid. We'll be able to neurologically connect with our games and feel like we're actually in those environments before we ever see good motion control games.

Even great games that use motion controls like Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 would've been better with a quality controller.

@An_Ethiopian why would i save my money for a PS3 when the ps3 has copyed most of the stuff on the xbox??

blackrunie
blackrunie like.author.displayName 1 Like

@jayjay444  what? what exactly did the ps3 copy? note that the definition of copy is to take something and make an exact replica, so you're saying the ps3 made one-on-one copies of xbox property? because that's bs. if anything, kinect has copied the eyetoy, which sony had already made for the ps2.

@blackrunie I meant it more as a reply to the whole discussion, rather than aimed specifically at you

blackrunie
blackrunie

@capper64 i never said copying was a bad thing, i just stated that he shouldn't start complaining about copying, since everyone does it, because of the natural progression of technology you mentioned: things that work, stick.

capper64
capper64

@blackrunie The way technology progresses, besides entirely new inventions, is by building upon what already exists. This includes incorporating features used by a rival company that have proved successful amongst other new features.

So yes, the systems copy each others ideas and features, but no, that's not a bad thing. You don't complain the car copied the wheel from the horse and cart.

blackrunie
blackrunie

@jayjay444 seriously? read the whole post!

taking a license is not copying, but taking a license, because you saw it turned out great for another company, that IS copying.

jayjay444
jayjay444

In that case Xbox/Microsoft didnt copy Sony/PS1 with disk base consoles because they would also have bought a license.

blackrunie
blackrunie

@baroonka yeah, you don't understand how business works, do you? those companies made the products with the intent to license them and make money of them. it's not copying when you pay the license fee and are allowed to use it. it IS however copying when you do that exact same thing after it turned out to work pretty well.

baroonka
baroonka

@blackrunieMaybe the Philips(the disc inventors) and NEC( first-diskdrive makers) copied Sony??? Get reall man

blackrunie

@jayjay444  why not? the PS1 had it first and later the PC adopted it, so you could say they copied it.

jayjay444

@7carnage7 and another thing the trophy system wasn't on the PS3 to begin with they brought it out in a update to try and compete with the xbox because at that time the PS3 sales were terrible.
