The biggest compliment that I can give State of Decay 2 is that it literally is a better game than the original in every way possible. The quality of the graphics is a lot better. There's a bit more variety in the open world, which prevents it from becoming this kind of bland experience a few hours in. The gameplay is still very much the same but I have no issues with that since I had a ton of fun playing the original. If it ain't broke, Don't fix it.
Another huge plus for me is the campaign and the actual story behind it. You can choose 1 of 4 duos to play as and live out their own story as you build up your base, encounter other survivors and just try to survive in the world. The campaign is now very story driven with each mission slowly progressing you through the story as you have to complete X amount of tasks in order to advance. That I like because it allows you to experience the game without having to rush through it. And the story itself is pretty decent, not the best but a lot better than the first game.
The multiplayer is a welcomed addition as well. It's a ton of fun being able to play with other people as it makes exploring and doing things in the world a lot quicker and it adds a new sense of fun to the game as well. I also have no issues with lags or things of that nature when playing online/hosting a game so that is also a plus.
As for bugs in general, This game seriously overrated them for the sake of tanking the game but that's just my opinion. The only time I encountered a bug was when my friend sank through the world but I just hit him with the car and he popped right out. Likewise for his game too. The only bug he experienced was just falling through his world and they have an in-game option to help unstuck you so there's that. Now I am not being biased, I called out the first game for being bug filled. I genuinely have had no issues with bugs.
What I do have issues with is the kind of lack of content in the game. The missions are very much the same, There are only a few new items added and there's no real difference in content when compared to the first game. I wish they added something new to make it a different experience and that is why I didn't rate the game any higher.
Overall: 8/10
As I said before, The game overall is entirely better than the first, and very fun, game. They just didn't add enough to content to really warrant a higher score.
