A revelation among mmo's and possibly the best free game around. You'll be stunned and you'll be shocked by the quality.

This is a unique game. Especially among mmo's. Some mmo's claim to be that one game that will get you hooked and will inspire you to go beyond yourself. But StarPort is the real deal.
It started out as a game in which the player would play 2-week matches in a galaxy. A playing field that is rather small at first sight. But not when you try to rule and colonise it. Those 2 week games proved to be a lot of fun and one could see himself setting their alarm clock at 4 AM to change the production of a colony on a captured planet. The micro-management of setting up defences inside your colonies and managing happiness and weapon production of those colonies is nicely compensated by heart pounding, highly strategically and skill-based arcade like combat. The tension grew when the servers came nearer to Rebang dates, as all wanted to be in the top 10 to get their medal and show their worth and show of their skill. Many were won for that game then. Few mmo's offered the spirit of Massive Multiplayer in a setting where you could actually WIN.
In June 2005 the game banged (launched) its first permanent server. A true revolution, even for a revolutionary game like this one.
A whole new side emerged. After the first month Empires began to grow and wars began to light up the galaxy. Fiercer than ever before. With massive alliances... Betrayal... Drama... Emotion...
Empires made by hand were destroyed, recaptured... Truly epic battles were fought.
But not in great numbers. Nay, SGE (StarPort: Galactic Empires) is not a game with many faceless and meaningless players. In SGE everyone has a value.
One person, even untrained, could make a difference in one of those determining battles in one of those wars.
The game evolved after its launch in early 2004. A lot. The developer team, though small has always showed great respect for the community, but still the will to go against them to improve the game to levels even the players couldn't imagine.
These changed show that SGE is a game that constantly changes, not only in the player created world, but also thanks to the developers.
Yes, player-created. The players decide when to go to war or not. Where the borders of the galactic empires are and where they should be crossed in daring campaigns, venturing for riches and glory.
The players, the players, the players. The epicentre of SGE: The Community.
Many of them dedicated to what they know to be a one of a kind game. Many of them nearly in love.
Some even a bit pathetic. But they can live with that.

Take it from me. SGE is a very hard game. It rivals EVE and L2 and Shadowbane in PvP violence. Though EVE has places to run, while SGE has few...
Though L2 has fixed castles where SGE has countless planets waiting to be YOUR castle.
Though Shadowbane has zergs where SGE has raw skill, in either fighting, invasion, building, diplomacy, espionage, manipulation,...
All real skills.
All player made.
All player.
All yours.
If you give it the chance.

Don't give up.
Accept the graphics.
Accept those galaxies, as they will accept your dreams.

Dare, conquer, overcome.

Good luck.
