Something of an obscure title, yet truly wonderful game, to complement any Genesis collection.

Starflight builds off of the 1980's Starflight game on MS-DOS; however the graphics are quite improved in the Genesis version. Additionally, the gameplay is much faster in comparison with the now archaic pc version. Starflight is essentially a game of interstellar exploration, trade, and colonization. Several alien races each have their own special domains on the star map and each can be encountered in space travel. Sometimes encounters may lead to pleasurable information exchange, while at other times almost arcade style blasting action can erupt. Your ship is almost entirely customizable, down to the shields, weapon systems and cargo holds. One of the most unique qualities of this game is the size of the universe in which the game takes place. The star map contains at least 75 unique solar systems, each with their own planets orbiting a central star. Each planet can be explored. Minerals and lifeforms may be found planet-side. Each can be traded for cash at your interstellar base. The story line is quite good, and it isn't interrupted with pesky missions, instead the storyline exists as a puzzle for the player to put together -- all in all a great game!

My only real complaint with this game is that it was modeled after Starflight I and not Starflight II.
