In this in-depth postmortem, we talk to Starcraft II producer Kaeo Milker about the game's lengthy production process, what happens to scrapped multiplayer content, fostering the community, issues with Real ID, and much more. Stay awhile and listen.
@vernholio everyone, read what he said. learn from it. 100% fact. stop whining, its a GREAT game, find an RTS that is better, more in depth and that has a better mp. didnt find one? didnt think so.
This is the 1st game I bought in close to 2yrs that I didnt pirate, so I'm glad I bought, but the fact is the amount of hype and lore of this new Starcraft game, don't think it will ever live up to expectations. I didn't buy this game to beat it on brutal then to go back and get all the stupid achievements its an RTS, not World of Starcraft. Bnet quick match is still a joke.
Additionally... Answer this question, HONESTLY: "In 10 years, when you have a new system, and have a hankering to play an RTS, would you re-install SC2 to play it?" (because we all know that "Windows: 2020" will -- for some unknown reason -- no longer support the original SC). To answer myself, I would... so that means it was $60 well-spent on my part, I figure.
Damn man... too many closed minds: "It's only Starcraft 1 (2.0)" 'I waited 12 years... for an expansion?!" "The campaign is too short" "I have to wait 18 months for the next edition?" Yada, yada, yada ("whine, whine, whine"). Was it SO "un-fun" that you pitched it in the trash? No! You played it through, just like I did! Best game ever? Maybe not... But, it's a good time, with the same kick-ass formula that made StarCraft the genre-making title it was! It's got nice, updated, non-system-breaking graphics -- everyone can play, even on their 6 year old system! It's got a good story-line, with excellent voice-acting, a nice change-of-pace (interactions on the Battlecruiser, with the various rooms/characters), and a slight RPG feel with the addition of "pump-ups" for your units. Too short? WTF?! Each individual campaign in the original was limited to 10 missions. This one has 29 for the Terrans, alone! And. there's a ton of add'l content that you can access: single-player challenge matches plus multi-player! (understand if MP is not your thing). Plus, how about custom maps via the FREE map-maker app, anyone? Bottom-line? Take it for what it's supposed to be: A fun GAME, that we can all play (system specs-wise), that improves on the original, and has more to offer in the future! It's not intended to be the culmination of all of your hopes and dreams, man! Relax... Play the game, but just like bad TV/radio: Don't like it? Turn the channel (i.e., don't play it!)
I was in beta as well and yes strats were evolving as patches/gameplay changed alot. I don't care about these noobs who just got Sc2 who are in bronze. What my original post was about was waiting 10yrs for this game to come out only to play a medicore SP and play on Bnet 0.5 and only to find out we get to wait another 18moths for the 2nd part of this game. 1st game I bought in close to 2yrs as I "leeched" everything else and looking back at it now, I should've just stuck with Wc3.
@Spiiiiiiiiike The game is still new, and strategies are evolving fast, besides the guys like me who were in BETA and can easily cheese our way to plat, alot of people are just getting the hang of the basics. The community will get much better very fast, its one of the best parts of the game. SC1 evolved an insane amount over the years, and the sames gonna happen here. An example would be the 6 raxx marine push that was a guaranteed win last week, is easily defeated and laughed at by most Platinum players now.
@qou gameplay first? how about ridding us of that real-id? and the oh-so-essential facebook integration? yeah, all of my facebook friends love and care so much for starcraft... plus, we have to see Dustin Browder every time we use a goliath (and with no "terrible terrible damage" it's no fun), and that WC3 animation just oozing from every design aspect of the game. i mean really, do these infested terrans have to look like zombies from WC3? and i played that game a long time ago and haven't finished it. just because i disliked it
Maybe cuz the Campaign is so freaking short, you can beat it in 8hrs and im just cheezing my way through the MP, already in Plat 1v1 n I'm just MMM balls.
I really enjoyed this interview but what I'm really interested to hear about is how they plan on improving the user interface of battlenet 2.0, which is prime example of putting gameplay first.
@SpiiiiiiiiKe 18 months, BLIZZARD time. besides you have WoL already so why are you worrying so much? it's only been out for like a week...
Well, by original, I meant the Wings of Liberty multiplayer, but your idea is interesting all it's own.
I'd be happy to see all the classic units make a comeback. At least make us choose the unit set before games!
@Woodsburrow Could not agreed more. Keep in mind that his final words on the matter were they don't have a solidified plan yet for where the multi-player will fit into the expansions, but also remember that Blizzard IS not in the habit of being stingy on content (at least in my experience) and I would be dumbstruck and horrified if the new campaigns came with absolutely NO new multi-player content. Who knows, maybe they will offer the option to play the 'original' multi-player as well as add new content at the same time to suit different peoples' tastes.
Really cool interview. Glad it's confirmed there will be new units in MP so people can stop worrying about that.
