Star Wars TIE Fighter: Collector's CD-ROM User Review
Tie fighter may be aged, but still perfectly enjoyable. For once, you get to see things in a different perspective.

In this space simulator there is little to complain about.
Released in 1995, I found this game to be very fun and addicting, even after nearly 14 years.
Placed in the universally known Star Wars universe, it places you in the cockpit of an Imperial starfighter.
Since you play, uh, fight, for the Empire, the notorious bad guys appear a little less evil and more alike to keepers of order. Propaganda? Probably, the atmosphere will make you think so...
You'll find all the weapons from the original saga plus a few additions to keep the game more entertaining. You'll fly several models of starfighter, such as the ordinary TIE, the agile Interceptor, the well-armed flying coffin known as TIE-Bomber, a heavier Assault Gunboat, and even some secret prototypes...
There are many, many missions to keep you playing for a long while. You will have to face rebels, traitors, smugglers and so on.
A fun game in all aspects. Few things can be criticised.
Among these is the fact that all ships use the very same lasers; only colors change. Same size and power, only their number changes.
Also the hitboxes for smaller ships are somewhat approximate, but then again this game is from 1995, and still larger capital ships have very detailed hitboxes.
Another downside is that weapons seem to have lost the lethality they show in the movies.
Shields can take a good beating before shutting down, even those of small starfighters.
Gameplay issue, I assume.
