Yeah, they have a lot of work to do on the graphics and the movements. I'd still play it either way, but it would be a lot better if they polished some of their stuff up.
@chrintov There will be an actual story, where you will make actual decisions in how your own story plays out, not kill 1000 (insert re-used model since 6 years ago) and turn in quest and nothing changes. There will be drastically different quests for each of the 8 classes, and within each the outcome can be extremely different based on your dialog choices. Add amazing Voice acting, instead of wow's lame text, and that is already a much different game. Crafting in wow is also a terrible bore. Tor's system will have 3 of your companions do the crafting. You will select who will do what, from 9 different "proffesions". A much better system than wows seeing as it sucks flying around farming ore and what not as other ppl do the same, making such a boring thing take an amazing amount of time, and doesn't add anything fun the game. Getting rewards from doing things, such as pvp, wasn't invented by wow. Infact, wow's reward system has always been terrible, so if anything, im sure Bioware will actually make a a good system. As for talent trees, again, wow did not invent the talent tree, have you played any rpg before wow came out? lol. All of this is only the little bit that they have talked about, they will release more info around wow cata. This game will be wow's true Cataclysm haha :)
Ouch. The need better animators. See that runner at the end, totally rigid robot hips, and the shoulders are at all times remain the same level to the floor.
@amioran This is getting kind of funny. I stated my opinion. Judging ANY form of art or entertainment is ALWAYS a matter of opinion and never fact. Next time I'll be sure to preface all of my posts with, "In my opinion" so you don't get your panties bunched about it. As for Dragon Age and ME2, they WERE both poorly written stories. There was barely an OUNCE of creativity between the two stories and they both had almost the exact same failed and formulaic plot. The bad guys are introduced early in the story. You're told you have to stop them. You need to gather allies to do this. So far so good. In ME2 and DA:O's cases, however, the bad guys that were just introduced exit the stage and then have NOTHING to do with the story whatsoever until the very end. The vast majority of the game is then spent completing subplots which aren't linked to one another in any respect, nor to the main branch of the story either. The main plot line of the story kind of just goes on standby until the other subplots are completed and only then is it reintroduced for a very brief finale. It's not good storytelling. It creates no sense of urgency. It makes your main antagonists seem arbitrary, inplausible and boring. Worst of all, it makes everything feel disconnected.
@Desertdback It seems like you and I mostly agree. My comment about Tolstoy was directed at amioran who came out with some bizarre reference to a couple of other famous authors who really had no business being brought into the discussion. I thought ME1's storyline was incredible for a game. I loved it. I thought ME2's character development and dialogue were superb as well, but the actual storyline for ME2 was pretty bad. ME2 had throwaway villains and other than the character development and recruitment missions, there didn't seem to be much to the story. I liked ME2 alright, but it definetly didn't have the same impact on me that ME1 did. ME1 had one of the best stories I've ever encountered in a game. It blew me away how it was presented. KoToR 1 did (to a lesser degree) the same thing. Dragon Age and ME2 just weren't as compelling and while they were both fun to PLAY, their stories were completely forgettable, particularly ME2.

It seems to me that we've come to a point where you can't have original elements in a new mmo anymore, every feature in an mmo always looks like a feature that already exists in wow, i know my view on the matter i skewed by the fact that i play wow, but there are indeed elements that are just too similar, i saw talent trees that are basically the exact same system that we have in wow, now pvp rewards and gear...perhaps someone can give a few solid examples of differences between how blizzard did their mmo and how bioware is doing theirs, i would like some variety not more of the same..in space.
@Abberon I don't know what you are talking about frankly. The Mass Effect storyline has been amazing when you compare it to any other computer game out there. Especially ME2 which made the characters really come alive and had a very immersible environment. Were not comparing computer games to Tolstoy or to Tolkien or any other amazing novelist out there. You should compare game writers to other game writers. I will give you that Dragon Ages story was a bit weak and cliche, but it did well in the RPG elements of the game, which I see you have pointed out. I hope that TOR can pull the RPG Elements of DAO and the writing of the ME Franchise together and put together an interactive masterpiece of a game in TOR. Well heres hoping anyways.
@lobotomist don't worry bout the graphics now, the games is still far from release.They still have alot lot deal with .The great thing about MMO's is that they upgrade graphics over time,this happens in all mmo's wow, even guild wars, i remember logging into guild wars bout 4 months after launch and almost not recognizing it, it looked amazing.
There is nothing wrong with this game pulling ideas/concepts from WoW or other current generation MMOs. WoW did the same from EQ/DAOC and improved upon them. If SWTOR does the same then no one can complain. Certain elements of MMO play are timeless, and even certain elements that can be repetative, yet improved upon, can still be enjoyable. Why not wait untile release until throwing your stones? Based on what we've heard from the previews, even if this game ONLY had a dynamic storyline which was solely PvE based, it would still be quite epic in an Everquest-esque way. :)
I am very glad to know that Bioware is taking many of the good ideas from WOW, thats how u make a better game. Its always good to accept good things and raise them to a higher level for better gaming experience. I think this will turn out to be an actually good game.
I saw this interviewer first in her interview with the Dead Space guy.... And she still needs to stop nodding so much.... and blinking!

MMORPGs dont have great graphics. just deal with it. if this game looked like Crysis, you would be complaning about it on a 40-person guild raid.
@Abberon: A) Dragon Age was written by the same writers of Baldur's Gate, so... inform yourself a little better next time. B) Dragon Age story was NOT amateurish, at all. It was not original, but that's another thing altogheter. It was well written and thought out and it had a right degree of suspence. C) Excuse me if I don't give much weight on what you consider a story well done, or not. You know, many people here would neither understand the difference between Eston Ellis and Ellroy. I bet you are one of those.
@Janpieterzun You mean Bioware storytelling USED to be top notch. Baldur's Gate, KoToR, ME1 all had amazing stories that kept me up late at night. Dragon Age and ME2's stories, however, were AT BEST amateurish and just plain embarrassing. I can only hope that the story writers from the older (and better) games were working on ToR instead and that's why Dragon Age and ME2 had such throwaway stories.
@Lobotomist Yeah but Bioware storytelling is topnotch id sacrifice graphics for a superior company with superior storytelling skills, especially the company that brought D&D to pc, baldurs gate. Sorry the crap story of guild wars doesn't compare. RPG is in mmorpg and I'm confident they can bring role playing to mmo's because its not there as it stands.
Look at Guild Wars 2 footage , than back at this SWTOR footage. Amazing ! It looks like SWTOR is made in 2002. Mindblowing is that they spent 150 million dollar to make such lame game !
So I know it is still to early to judge, but from everything I have seen at various conventions and on the net this game looks waaaay too "static" to be an MMO. The combat would fit right in a single player RPG, but the lack of fluid movement and attacks make it look and feel like a multiplayer version of a great single player RPG. Which just doesn't work. =/
I'm curious if this game will be good, it has potential. Oh yeah, and the interviewer on this video is really cute.
I just hope this game isn't compared too much to WoW. If it is it seems as if it will be too different from WoW and people won't like it.
It's cool that there is "story" behind the pvp system and that the battleship crashes at the end of the game but...won't it lose a little of impact when you've fought 400 times over Onderon? It's nice, but i think the story in that is a little overrated. Plus, i'd love too know more about the system itself: rating, gear, level adjustment maybe. Things like that. Competition and fun, that's what we need.
@ blackcat2000 i have to agree with you. "rapid entry and fun battles" doesnt sound like bioware is looking to make it very competitive...i sure hope im wrong

Hey Bioware! Here's something that I want to hear about: Premades vs Random queue players What exactly are you going to do about this? Are you going to to have a ranking system? Is your system going to be able to tell when players are in absolute crap gear vs creme de la creme gear? Or are you going to ignore all of this and say "whoops" after your PvP forum explodes when the game goes live? I don't care about your "rapid entry and fun battles" if you don't bother to ensure that low tier players aren't just cannon fodder to pad someone's scrore. When I log on I want someone that's actually a challenge to fight, not some nonsense where I can "faceroll" a victory.
@Smoda They look at their team's credentials, think 'this guy knows what he's talking about' and make him the lead. Funny that.
