Does looking great make the game great? In this case, yes.

This game joins Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker at the top of my best looking games list. In fact, Okami seems to be influenced by LoZ:WW- the great faerie in Wind Waker looks remarkably similar to the tree-sprite goddess who guides Okami throughout the game. (Interesting that Twilight Princess wolf mode feels so similar to Okami, as far as gameplay). And this game isn't all looks either. Using a paintbrush, controlling a wolf- these elements are fresh, inventive and work well with the game.
Overall, the game is as artistically relevant as any. Its story, mythology, art and general feel are all grounded in the same grain of Japanese traditional culture. I don't know if this is going to be the last great PS2 game (I personally hope there are a few straglers on the console), but it is definitely going down as one of its all-time greats. It is an undeniable classic, no doubt.
