Not as memorable as the first game but still a great Star Wars RPG experience

User Rating: 8.5 | Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords XBOX
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (Kotor 2) isn't as memorable as Kotor however it's still a great game. The story and characters aren't as interesting as they were in Kotor but that is due to the fact that Bioware did not make this sequel.

Visual/Audio
Same graphics as Kotor, which is a bit disappointing given the time gap between the two games. Audio is fine--good sound effects and voice acting

Gameplay
Almost exactly the same as Kotor. There is nothing much new here which isn't exactly a problem. After all if nothing's broke then don't fix it. For those who didn't play the first game Kotor 2 is sort of an action RPG hybrid. Actions are stacked and the hero completes those actions automatically. In other words you don't have complete control over exactly when your hero strikes but it's very close.

Narrative
Here's where Kotor 2 slips up. Bioware isn't around to write a good story (this game is made by Oblivion) so the narrative just isn't as interesting as Kotor. Also, the characters aren't nearly as memorable. Bastila, Carth, Mission, Zaalbar, and crew have been replaced with some fairly lackluster substitutes. The rather dull story comes to a compltely confusing and illogical ending that makes absolutely no sense--most likely a result of a rushed game. It's a shame because even a boring story deserves an adequate ending.

Kotor 2 is a great game that keeps the same formula as the first Kotor. This would be fine if Bioware were around to write a good story but Oblivion dropped the ball in that regard and we are left with that familiar Kotor gameplay with a subpar story. It's like comparing The Empire Strikes back with The Phantom Menace--its still Star Wars, just not as good.
