A long time ago this game was worth the absurd monthly fees.

I advise anyone who is tempted by Star Wars Galaxies to run a mile in the opposite direction.

Gameplay in SWG is awful, with the exception of anything that involves space which is actually quite enjoyable. Combat professions are boring and a bit over-complicated, non-combat professions can be fun to play as (trader, entertainer) but require a lot of commitment. You will soon find yourself wondering what you're paying £8 a month for.

Graphics are, as expected considering how long ago it was released, a bit rubbish. Again however, they look good in space! Don't buy it just for the space aspect though, that alone doesn't justify it.

Arguably the main appeal of MMOs is the community in the game. SWG's community is, more often than not, exceptionally rude. Players that have been on there for years tend to ignore people outside their little clique, whereas new players tend to talk in capitals with shameful use of spelling and grammar. If you make any friends at all on there, to be honest you've achieved something.

The rubbish sense of community doesn't help when the majority of quests and achievements in SWG requires a team of players to complete them. When you manage to get into one of these teams you really are going to have to fight and stamp your feet for any rare loot, rather than discuss it over a nice cuppa.

On a positive note, playing alone isn't a totally lost cause. It can be very immersive to ride across the desert on Tatooine on a speeder bike exploring the planet and finding new locations, or flying around space enjoying the views. But let's be honest - how long could anyone do this for with any degree of satisfaction?

SWG used to be worth playing but now... save up for The Old Republic.
