This game isn't that bad.

User Rating: 8.5 | Star Wars: Dark Forces PS
Star Wars: Dark Forces, the first(?) Star Wars FPS for the PlayStation 1, is a fun game. You play as Kyle Katarn as you go to may different worlds to acomplish missions for the Rebel Alliance. The first mission starts before A New Hope, and ends... I think after Return of the Jedi. Anyway, the levels themselves are great; they require lots of attention to find your way around. You fight everything from stormtroopers to Octopus-like creatures in rivers of trash. Starting out with a Bryar pistol, you can collect many different types of weapons throughout the game. You also pick up health and shield packs to stay alive. But this isn't just a run-n-gun shooter. Turning a corner could result in your death by a turret on the wall. Like I said before, levels need attention. This is due to the fact that there are puzzles everywhere to figure out in order to continue.
But Dark Forces also has a bad side. For a PS1 game, these are some of the worst graphics in....HISTORY. Huge, fat pixels and 2-D objects and characters, along with there terrible animation. The only 3-D object in the game are...... a couple of Imperial Tie Fighters. Did I mention the sound was bad? better than the graphics.....a bit. The sound was off a bit and when some guys died they made more of a shriek than a cry. And the music......UGH! Great songs turned techoish and then compressed make it all the better. Not techno, but..... well, theres no other way to describe it. That's about it. Oh, the AI don't understand that their in a battle sometimes, so they'll start walking a different direction until they get that their supposed to be there to die.
Sum up: If you can get passed the last-gen-graphics-before-the-ps1 and the compressed audio files, this can turn out to be a great shooter. You should at least rent it. If your up to the challenge.
