The scale of the fight zones, the amount of characters, the amount of maps, the graphic detail, space battles dude!

Space battles can be a bit annoying, nothing else really

Greetings gamers, today I am talking about Star Wars Battlefront II on the PS2. First let me say that Star Wars Battlefront was a great game, with extreme likeness to the films but with arenas that were a bit small. The small problems in the first game have fortunately been fixed.

The gameplay is great. You take control of a squad member from a certain side of the armies and attack other armies, disable mechinery, blow up stuff and complete objectives. The scale of the arenas are immense compared to the first game, with the snowy areas of Hoth, the sand deserts of the Tuscan raiders, the market place of Tatooine and the tropical paradise of Naboo. Also, the amount of playable characters is amazing, including all the grunt soldiers of the army such as machine gunners, snipers, demolitionists, mechanics and pilots. In addition to these, there are also plenty of special characters known as "Heroes" for your side. This includes Obi-Won-Kenobi, Princess of Naboo, Luke Skywalker for the good and Darth Vader, Lord Sidius and Lord Tyrannus for the bad. There are plenty of others but I can't really cover them. There are also various game modes such as Story, Instant Action, Galactic Conquest which is like Risk as well as 2Player which is great. All of the modes can take place during the first 3 or the second 3 films giving a bit more variety. And the best thing that has been added are the space battles where you control another merc in one giant ship and try to take out the opposing one with smaller ships by various means such as disabling motors, safety mechanisms and other things. It is definitely a great addition. All of this gets immediately better when you begin to play the modes in 2P and have an additional mate to play with making the war even more carnage.

And now onto sounds. The game includes the whole Star Wars theme as well as the wonderful blaster and missile noises. The music really adds a great battle atmosphere to the game when destroying your opponents on the battlefield which can really help you get into the swing of things. The blaster and weapon noises I mentioned can make the game seem even more like an official film. This making you feel like a character in real life, which is damn cool.

And saving best till last is the graphics. They are so believable that the characters look almost identical to thier real-life counterparts. The vehicles as well as battle grounds have been designed so that they look exactly like they do in the film. The graphics become even more breathtaking when you view each of the zones from above or a far and viewing each one is a complete joy because of thier looks.

All these factors join together to make a game thats like a film in more ways than one. If you are a Star Wars fan or just a war game fan then this is a must and it gets me full rating of 10/10.
