now that's a poor, cheap game. Won't be buying, won't be even trying. Their enthusiastic tone sounds like an insult to me. It's ugly, empty and uninteresting. I give it less time than Age of Conan, and will lose more money.

For all those that are whining about different ship roles and wanting everyone's ship to be the same....Today's Naval forces have more roles then video game characters. For example: destroyers are the work horses of today's fleet, they do just about everything; cruisers and frigates are escorts for the larger carriers; carriers act as support and damage, and then there is your command ships, which tell every one were to go and who to hit.

    Hmmm...

Really excluding the ground combat this game will have... the space combat isn't anything new as it is just a clone from the Starfleet Command series. That is also including selecting officers and modules.

I myself won't be joining( I've been following the update though)... but I believe they could have choosen a different set of space combat gameplay.(maybe something along the lines of bridge commander but more enhanced ?)

Well, hopefully for their sake the other stuff will be more original.

Some of you don't get it. The roles of "tank," "DPS," "support," are inherent to ANY system of combat that attempts any diversity of gameplay. Try to construct a game that contains combat in which some combatants aren't better at taking damage than others? The only way to avoid it is to chop diversity in the knees and force the same roles on all players. Now imagine group combat in which you do NOT want a good damage taker to take the damage? Unless you're retarded, you won't play this way. The result: the tank.

It's unavoidable. If we all live to see 50 more years of games with group combat you will never see a game in which these terms can not apply.

customise your 'tank' ship and pain a giant bullseye on the hull, buy one and get another for free.

'tank' , 'dps' , 'support' ? wtf. good luck with that

I have to agree with some ppl here, the terms dps/tank/support have been hard-wired to MMORPGs (name your favorite). When i hear the word tank, i have a hard time thinking "cruiser"...but more importantly if the developers buy into that role-system, then it kind of pigeon-holes ships into fixed categories, even if that might not be the intent.

guys, when they refer to the ships as "support" "dps" and "tanker" its just a term used in the MMO genre for different types of things.
so when he says a ship is a "tanker" it has shield/armour mods so that it can take a beating, just because they use these terms does not mean they are uncreative. they're just using them so to describe the use of the ship.

when i heard about ships and their roles i instantly got turned off, i mean how can you say ideal for a tank dps or support(that sounds fine but the meaning is stupid)...
Whats next? Will they announce that the tank can taunt other ships and make them attack him first?!
