Creative and emotional story in this Sci Fi/Medieval JRPG.An epic adventure.
The story is about a blue-haired teenager named Fayt Leingod whom is on a vacation with his parents and his female friend named Sophia on a tropical planet until it's attacked by aliens from a race known as the 'Vendeeni'.Fayt,Sophia,and his family must evacuate the planet and they all became separated.
Fayt ends up alone on some medieval planets and meets some characters and he needs to deal with the problems on the medieval planets whilst trying to find a way to get a starship so he can find his parents and Sophia again.The story does a good job of making you deal with other problems besides the Vendeeni because one of the medieval planets is at war and they people on that world don't even know Fayt is from another planet and the way the story brings morality into it is well thought out.
The story takes some dramatic twists and I don't want to spoil it for you but one of the big plot twists was unpredictable and was very emotional.
The cast of characters is good because of one of them is a charming fugitive named Cliff who is hiding from the federation.Nel is a red-haired lady from one of the medieval planets and she has no idea what's going on elsewhere in the galaxy and has a very serious personality.Maria is another character who enters the story and who's quite interesting but mysterious.There is other characters but I'll let you discover them for yourself.
Even though you can create romance some of the romantic endings are disappointing.
The story has some emotional or deep sidestories that I cared about,like I said the story does a good job of making you care about events that are happening on the planets you'll travel to and care about the local population on those planets.The story has a good build up too,it doesn't rush through any parts and it gives you time to care about different things happening on different planets.
The combat in the game is action based and quite fast and that makes it fun.The combat system has lots of special attacks you can use but using special attacks consumes health points.Star Ocean TTEOT's versions or magic are symbology and runeology.You control one party member,the AI controls the others and you can set the AI to use tactics of your choice.
Otherwise you'll be traveling from town to town and doing quests and the world maps are quite big.
There is no random battles but some enemies can move quite fast so you might want to sneak past them.
The cel shaded graphics make cut scenes look smooth and despite the game having a lot of Sci Fi influence the characters are quite colorful.The graphics during general gameplay look smooth too.
I love the tropical environment on Hyda IV which has white sand and beautiful blue water mixed with Sci Fi style buildings.Vanguard III has little rural style towns and ancient ruins and thick forest.Elicoor II has has castles and lots of mountain terrain and looks very medieval.But there's also very Sci Fi environments,such as on space stations and inside starships and futuristic buildings and when you're traveling through space at fast speed you'll see colorful affects outside the starship's window.
The game's intro uses great CGI footage of a futuristic city with flying cars and tall futuristic sky scrappers.
The voice acting matches the characters personalities well,for example,Cliff speaks like he thinks he's ladies man and sounds charming.Nel's voice is always intense and so is her dialogue.Fayt sounds like a worried teenager going through a tough time.The music suits what is going on quite well.
Overall-Star Ocean Till The Ends of Time is quite an epic and heartfelt adventure and after I played it it's story stayed with me for a while because of the shocking plot twists and this game is one of the best games on the PS2.
