Looks like something's had a make-over! Good to see such a great game back...

User Rating: 8 | Star Ocean: Second Evolution PSP
It's been a while since we've seen the originally named 'Second Story', originally released on the Playstation is now remade and renamed 'Second Evolution' for the handheld PSP. Evolution is a suitable name as the second installment looks and plays much better than it ever did thanks to Square Enix making a few adjustments.

The Second Evolution gives you the option to either take the role of Claude C. Kenni, son of Ronixis J. Kenny from the original Star Ocean, or Rena Lanford, a mysterious blue haired girl who Kenni happens to meet on a strange planet. The begins as you adapt to grow and love the characters as they explain how and why they're both seeking to find the 'Sorcery Globe' hoping it will answer their fates. Along their adventures they meet new and interesting people, and partake in other exciting adventures that they did never expect.

Square Enix have kindly added some new things to the 'Second Evolution', the main one being dialogue as characters now have a voice as they read the script. Little pictures of the characters also appear and change to whatever mood the character is currently in. It looks very good and the voice acting is pretty good too. Another main addition is the anime cutscenes, thanks to Production I.G (the team behind Ghost In The Shell) the game has some beautifully animated cutscenes during certain moments in the game that really add a more anime feel to the whole game itself.

Star Ocean: The Second Evolution is a superb make-over to the original PS1 game. If you enjoyed the original and you're wanting a good port, or if you've just never played the Star Ocean series, this is a brilliant RPG to get playing. Square Enix have clearly done a decent port here for anyone looking to play their favourite Star Ocean.
