One of the first full 3D games released, a very unique treat for SNES'ers.
Sound/Music: The sounds are very good in this game, mostly consisting of the sound of your Arwing (that's your ship you use in the game) slowing down/speeeding and simply flying, firing, getting hit/hitting enemies, bombs going off, and even voice acting which is quite clear and well done. The music is some of the best I've heard on the SNES, and some that you've heard on a couple of SSB games. Audio is almost, if not just as good as the graphics.
Difficulty: There are three seperate paths you take, easy, medium and hard. Even so it's really up to you how hard the level is. Some people simply have trouble on some areas than others. If you have fast fingers and good eye-hand coordination, it won't be very hard to you.
Gameplay: The start of a series still being expanded this very day and age. The crew remains the same: Fox, Peppy, Slippy, and the snide, conceited Falco. Your mission is to fly to Venom and destroy the evil, mad scientist who'd been banished from Corneria, Andross. He has been sending out troops to attack Corneria and conquer the entire Lylat system for his own evil doings. He, of course, will try his best to destroy the Fox crew as well, so that they cannot stop him. Your mission is to rescue the Lylat system and destroy Andross in the depths of Venom.
Controls: This game makes full use of the SNES controller, everything does something. L+R turn your ship left and right, tap either one twice to do a barrel roll to that direction you clicked.. You know. DO A BARREL ROLL! Yeah you get the idea. B is slow down, Y is fire lasers (which you can upgrade by the way, two upgrades await), A shoots a smart bomb and X uses your boost. The select key will come in handy eventually in the game; in space missions you push it twice to get into cockpit view (although it usually does it by itself), and when in standard view, push once to get closer to the rear of the Arwing. You can push it a couple of times more to get back to your normal view. Just be careful not to lose a wing, it will affect your flying and will take away any laser upgrades you have. To gain it back, collect the Laser Upgrade to send off an outline of the ship which you fly into and repair your lost wing(s).
Overall: Certainly one of the best games ever created for this systems, and in my eyes, in this universe. It holds MANY memories for me from when I was a little kid, I used to watch my parents play it then play it after them. Finally for years, the video store we used to rent it from sold it, and we were Star Foxless for a long time. One day we hit the pawn shop, I found it, I gave the guy 10 bucks and said "mine." Concidering our technology today, this game is pretty low for that, but if you give it a try, I can almost promise you'll love it like I do.
