Thank goodness Fox McCloud has an itchy finger, 'cause blasting everything in sight is just what the doctor ordered.

After a little detour into Zelda territory with Star Fox Adventures, Fox McCloud and company return to their shooter roots. The game is divided in three forms of gameplay: There's the Arwing or flying missions; and the ground missions where you can drive a Landmaster tank or fight on foot. Naturally, the flying missions is what Star Fox is famous for. And these are the best part of the game. Some of these levels are on rails and in some, you're free to fly around the environment. The ground levels are fun but they're just not as thrilling as the flying ones.

Star Fox Assault is not a deep game. There's no puzzle solving or anything like that. Its philosophy is simple: Blast everything in sight. It's fast-paced. You're always moving, and always blasting something. It's also a visually impressive game. The environments are gorgeous, both in space and on the ground. And it's got some nice special effects. Its sounds are equally good. The orchestral music fits the on-screen action nicely and the voice acting is pretty good too, which is itself complimented by an entertaining story and a funny script. The game is a bit short. But that doesn't matter much 'cause you won't play perfectly the first time through. There's always a chance to improve your score. All in all, Star Fox Assault is great fun.
