Space... The Final Frontier

User Rating: 9 | Star Fox 64 N64
Star Fox is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. It might not have as many games as Mario or Zelda, but it has have its classics. It all started with StarFox for the SNES. But, when you talk about the most acclaimed game in the series, it was Starfox for the Nintendo 64.

This game was originally Starfox 2 and was expected to be released for the SNES. However, as the Nintendo 64 was getting ready to be released, it was moved to the 64. What resulted was one of the most best-looking and overall greatest games on the Nintendo 64.

Like the last game, you travel through the Lylat system to take down the evil Andross. Where you go on the way is all up to you. You can either complete part of the mission and go through the regular path. However, if you complete the whole mission on the planet, you can decide what planet to go to. Some missions are better than others, but it depends on what the gamer likes.

Starfox 64 may be a remake of the original Starfox, but it adds more depth to the storyline. In the original game, there was little explanation of Fox's father's 'disappearance'. Here, it is shown that James McCloud's teammate Pigma betrayed him to Andross years before. This leads up to the new Starfox team, led by James' son Fox, attempting to defeat Andross before he takes over the Lylat system.

The controls in this game are excellent, probably the best for a rail shooting game at the time. I would have to say I like the controls of the Landmaster for Assault rather than the controls for the Landmaster in this game, but that's just a personal opinion. The graphics are well done and beautiful to look at. Along with that, every ship and building in this game is greatly detailed.

Final verdict, this is a instant classic for the Nintendo 64. Even a hardcore gamer will find himself playing this game for days. It is that addicting.
