- The Bottom Line:
- "Check your bargain bin"
Before I get yelled at I was literally raised by the N64 and all its glory. I remember getting starfox 64 and was just amazed by the rumble pack and just blown away by it. Yet about 13 or more years later the game has lost some of the awesomeness that it once had and paying for $40 for the game feels a bit like a rip off.
Story:
The story sadly remained the same and I realize it makes no sense. It seems the genius madman Andross sent his army to invade a planet Cornia and the planet's army oddly hires starfox and his crew to clean it up and fight all the way to Andross' home planet called Venom to stop this war type thing?
Gameplay:
The game was amazing for its time with secrets to unlock different planets and 3 different types of ships to use the game was a lot of fun. Still to this day with this remake its a marvel to behold to try and remember what secrets unlocked what.
The game is basically a on rails shooter with a colorful environments with a nice selection of enemies to shoot at. You have your standard affair of lasers and bombs and boss fights. To make this all better the developers added new graphics, 3-D and redid all the voices with the same voice actors I mean what could go wrong?
Yet when the nostalgia wears off and the new sheen wears off we get this game that we realized over time has not aged gracefully at all. The biggest problem I feel with the game is how long the game is. The game is very short each level is no more than 5mins long maybe a bit longer. You can complete this game in a hour or less.
Another problem I never realized as a child is how useless your "teammates" are. There is this illusion in the game that you and your team are the best of the best. Yet all your team does it get into trouble and ask to help them. Basically they break the monotony of the game by randomly asking for help before their health is fully depleted and you might need them to unlock a certain level.
The 3-D is ok nothing really eye popping, but unlike zelda they won't hurt your eyes.
Graphics:
The graphics are amazing they totally redid the game amazingly. Everything looks shiny and probably one of the best looking 3DS games out there right now.
Audio:
They thankfully redid all the voice acting from all the original voice actors this is both a huge miss and hit. Some lines aren't delivered properly like "do a barrel roll" or some bosses just feel lack luster. Also embarrassingly enough the final boss doesn't even sync with the voice acting so it just feels bleh. Also they didn't change the dialogue which is kind of bleh because like some of the things they say make no sense at all. For example one team mate yells at random intervals "just shoot it fox!!" and I just don't understand why.
Multiplayer
I never tried it since its for local play only which I feel is a major disappointment.
Pro's
Amazing graphics, the 3-D is good, solid controls, its probably the best star fox game ever, great for those who never played it.
Con's
The levels are too short, teammates get in the way, slippy is as annoying as ever, paying $40 bucks for this game feels too expensive there wasn't enough content put into the game to make it feel like a full fledged 3DS game, local multiplayer only, the new voice acting is meh at best, can be beat in an hour or less.
Overall:
Overall I am happy that they remade this game with care to graphics and SOME of the voice acting, yet paying $40 for nothing more than a graphics redo is not worth it in my book. The game did not age well and you can clearly see that. If the game was cheaper than that would be a different story.

- Well, we have a Zero Suit Samus so I thought "why not have a Pokeball suited character?" Krystal Pokeball suit is nothing more than a conglemeration of total randomness.Posted Sep 21, 2007
