Starting out it looks like a normal top down space shooter. Playing deeper you quickly realize that it isn't just your normal run of the mill game. You can play as many different races which have there own back story and ability. This isn't much of a statement now but when Star Control II was first put out it was ahead of it's time. Not only does the game offer a quality story mode which will take hours to finish there is also a skirmish mode which lets you take on the computer to hone your skills or you can go against other human players. Basically this is an update to Space Combat but with the extra modes of play and deep story you will have fun with this game for some time.
