When I was a kid my Aunt and Maternal Uncle used to tell me about a Space Sim with Cinematic Story telling . When I grew up a little as a gamer I realized that , that game was Wing Commander . This man Chris Roberts had been a legend and everybody knew him even those who never played games before . I am glad that Grand Master of Master Race's Gaming Order is back . It's gonna be the blast .

Chris Roberts (creator of the Wing Commander series) returns with a new space sim, Star Citizen.
I've been dreaming AND dreading the day Chris Roberts came back to the video game biz ;) Dreaming, because he is a grand master of game creation - Dreading, because my pocket will be empty on the PC upgrade every time he releases a game.
So, pc only? There's not chance this one will ever come to ~6 year oldish systems. :)
So many nods to the first WC, it made me happy with nostalgia.
Aside from the designs of the ships which both in color schemes and design might as well be from WC1 (the carrier might as well be the tiger's claw, the way the fighter cockpit's opened was identical to the way it opened in wc1), there was the shot of the boots of the pilots running to their ship, the takeoff sequence with the inside the cockpit view, the joystick being visible at the bottom of the screen as it was in wc1, the last shot of an enemy ship being chased "into the camera" and it exploding to reveal the title of the game. Probably some others i'm forgetting right now
Welcome back Chris, we have missed you.
Looks great. Can't wait to see how it turns out. But I really wish someone will come along and use Isaac Asimov's Foundation series as inspiration for space combat. His elegant "gravitic" ships would be a welcome change from the Battlestar/Firefly/Aliens/Troopers ships we've all become so familiar with.
@Testsoul you are comparing it to....what exactly. !!! sadly we don't have real ones in space to compare them.
so pretty much all space ships in games and movies look like toys or are represented in an unrealistic way.
@Testsoul Which ship? The fighter or the carrier? More video on the physics and scale are on the official website.
I like what I see. Been ages since there was something worthy in this genre and on PC. I hope this does well. Can't wait to see more.
Wasn't the Tiger's Claw also a Bengal class strike carrier? :) This ship even looks like Tiger's Claw. Here is my problem with this trailer: it's like Wing Commander but not, so if I do play, I will play in the shadow of Wing Commander. Old WC vets may share my sentiment. Most in the younger generation are unfamiliar with higher standard combat flight sims (not to say WC was even that hardcore a flight sim compared to Jane's or MSFS; and to be fair, someone who can combine his experience with both the group tactics of EVE and the aircraft piloting of BF3 has a good idea on combat flight sim).
That creates a dilemma for Chris Roberts. What is this game and who is his target audience? Personally, I would like to see a remake of WC with modern technology, but the original cast either are old or have passed away (please no lecture about 1 and 2 not having LAV). Not to mention I don't think a remake will be commercially viable. However, Chris Roberts brought me Wing Commander, my very first non-trivial computer game, so I'll back this project no matter what. I just can't help but feel that he's trying to resurrect the dead best left at peace.
In the gamespot's highlights it says Chris Roberts most ambitious game yet. N watching this trailer make me say..... wow what an incredible ambition to have. I would like to suggest a new ambition for chris. Please kill yourself by drowning into a drop of water.
@lordshifu Go back to gays of war where things explode and you shoot everyone on face without any reason . MORON !
So the trailer is telling me its a game about: Watching little ships chase another with intent to kill, around a much larger ship. You might be able to controll a fighter.. or get just its POV. Hey wow, its another trailer for a game thats suppose to hype you up and leave you very much dissapointed, i would assume its short storyline with some space combat that ppl would expect to fly freely but get a terrible star fox thing. Why do i gotta be negetive?, its the new face of the gaming industry.. its made me this way towards it.
@Master_Vexov Hey, you don't know a thing about space sims. Go play Freelancer Crossfire (online), Nexus...or drown. I'm making you this way towards it.
What do space sims have to do with a trailer??, really i think you just wanted to bark at anything you could. I own and play SINS, Gal Civ, and I swear im forgeting one. Even if this game is suppose to be a space sim, this trailer doesn't show anything but some flash.. its tells nothing like many other game trailers that hype ppl up.
@plusnminus people PHAIL to realize that the game will probably have 1000+ ship/fighter designs and who knows maybe player made ones.
It will be a glorious commercial failure, but one I will have to buy a joystick for. And maybe a bigger screen. Or two
Soooo.... this will be a single player version of Eve Online then? I wish the Devs luck, if it's an MMO they will have a hell of a lot of work to do to compete with Eve, if it's a single player game I believe it will do very well if they can match or out do the combat mechanics in Eve. Either way, I look forward to seeing the progress and have my fingers crossed it's a single player game.
Is that Commander Shepherd I see saluting at 2:15? ;)
This looks sick. It's great to see; Freelancer was great!
@gamefreak215jd @Slagar nevermind him..... there are a lot of ultimate noob gamers round here...... they will even mistake Miranda for a lesbian hobbit. Just saying......
most of you were at best playing lion king on nes by the time first wc came out. stop calling yourselves hardcore pro gamers and show some respect to a real living legend of video games. i switched from amiga to pc just for this game and wow, my eyes still shine when i think about the 10 years of great flight sims chris roberts gave us.
@hordicus Lion King was a hardcore game.. Don't know what you're talking about
Holy shoot! I already want this game to happen! Maybe, just MAYBE, after all these years of waiting we will get a good space combat sim without shitty trading, RPG and other excuses not to make a descent missions.
@rannoni Yep MMOs have carriers made with 7 million polygons even in prototype stage . Bravo !
Wow, that was incredibly unhelpful. Still no idea WTF this games is like or about.
@jeffdee107 Sounds like a guy from COD generation who knows nothing about Space Sims and expecting Soldiers to fly in space and shooting everyone in face in first person view .
i never use internet explorer. but this 60 freaking seconds commercial of it, just makes me never use it even more. just saying...
It's good to see a gaming pioneer getting his hands dirty again! I still play Wing Commander in my dreams
Ships looked pretty good to me, though I dont see the use for those wings. With that in mind, the physics seemed a bit not space-like. Of course this may not be what we want in this genre either way, but I like realism
The ship designs are generic, the fighter designs are completely uninspiring & the wings are leaving contrails. But my god, the adrenaline rush I got when the fighter was taking off redeemed it all.
yeah man! I got a rush too when that fighter took off! the music was pretty epic too!
