Come back Insomniac! All is forgiven

User Rating: 1.7 | Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (UK) PS2
Tell me, was this game meant to be crap from the beginning, so the Spyro name can sucker people in to buy it, or was this a honest attempt at trying to make a game worthy of the Insominiac Spyro games? Either way, this game really doesn't live up to the original PS1 games. Already from the get go, there are two problems with this game, Long Loading Times and a Inconsistent frame rate, in which the latter displays more. You see, after waiting endlessly for the game to load, the game then has to take a while to try and catch up with itself, resulting in massive frame slowdown, which is really annoying. Thankfully, these are the only two main problems with the game, the game has more to it's bad name Lets begin with the graphics, ok, I wasn't expecting them to be MGS2 or GT3 like, but come on, these graphics are poor, and leaving poor Spyro almost cel-shaded like (which isn't a bad thing, just it doesn't suit him) The game world looks ok, but characters that inhabit the world look poor... The Gameplay is traditional platformer, which means that you have one big world which has other little worlds in which you collect the stuff you need to go to the next world. Now thats not the worst thing about it, it's actually the best thing, but the games problems keep it from being much better. Unlike previous Spyro games, the games hub is just one big world, with the other levels scattered. The games main thing is Dragonflies, which were scattered at the beginning of the game, you have to find them all. To capture the Dragonflies, you use a variety of powers that alter Spyros breath, one of the games new features. Powers include elemental breath, like Fire and Ice breath, Bubble Breath (used to capture Dragonflies), Thunderbreath (used to power objects) and so on. The Sound is also pretty bad, while the music isn't too bad, the voice acting is. I wasn't expecting the best, but the voices are actually acted badly, and while Spyro talks more than the other games (he announces the captured Dragonflies names), it's still bad. The other voices are also bad, but thankfully, are just bad, nothing else. I really cannot think of anything else to write about this game, so I'm just going to end it right here and say this. Do not get this game, Do NOT get this game, DO get Ratchet and Clank and any of the much better and inspired platformers that have been released for the Playstation 2, because this isn't one of them....
