Undeniably the worst letdown ever made my Insomniac Games.
I was looking forward to Spyro ETD after playing the previous successful Spyro titles, but was immediately disappointed. While the preceding titles had interesting and unique storylines, this game started out with an inane and uninspired one. However, because of my previous experience with Spyro titles, I disregarded the plot and continued on. What followed was an almost tear-jerking eyesore, complimenting the horrible story. While the levels are beautifully designed and laid out, the game lags and distorts frequently. The animations of the protagonist are smooth, but the other NPCs appear as "Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Men" (Family Guy inside joke). In other words the other characters wave about frantically and randomly, rarely even looking at Spyro. Several of the various puzzles and mini-games are tough even for experienced gamers, and the reoccurring bugs don't help. Several of these bugs even prevent you from progressing through both the puzzles and the main campaign. The biggest annoyance however, is the frequent and extremely long loading screens. Even for a barely ten level game the loading screens can drag out the total gameplay time a whole other 2 hours.
In short, Spyro ETD is a major and disheartening sequel to a very good title.
