Color me corrected. After reading the fact sheet for EA Sports' upcoming UEFA EURO 2008, I was pissed. You see, EURO 2008 won't have the collectible card feature that was the highlight of UEFA Champions League 2006/2007. After whipping myself into an apoplectic rage about this, I typed out a tidy little 500-word blog rant, bemoaning the removal of one of my favorite sports game features in recent years.
Until I realized which version of UEFA that we're talking about.

You see, in addition to the yearly FIFA series, and along with the just-released FIFA Street 3, EA puts out two separate UEFA series--the Euro series, last released in 2004 to coincide with the real UEFA European Football Championship, and the UEFA Champions League series which is released roughly every two years. The upcoming UEFA Euro 2008 is naturally tied to this year's European championship, which will be held this June in Austria and Switzerland.
Wading through this complex release schedule is tough enough but the takeaway is that it's entirely possible--if not probable--that UEFA Champions League 2008-2009 will be on the release schedule next year, and that EA will be talking about their grand plans for the card feature update. At least, they better be talking about that feature. Otherwise, I've got 500 words ready for battle...
