(7.7) Spore, while sometimes incredibly simple, can be great fun in the first playthrough- not so much after that.

Spore, the game of tommorow. The incredible genius behind this? Will Wright. Sadly, even if he is an incredible genius, he couldn't save Spore. I will say, Maxis ruined this, not Will. If you want to see what I mean, see the first demonstration in 2005. Then compare it to the following ones, and finally this one. You can see the change, and it happens right before your eyes. Getting on with this, Spore can be quite entertaining in your first play-through, and I personally liked the idea of guiding a little organism thing into a space-faring empire. Sadly, Spore does not transition it as well as I would've hoped. Still, it can prove to be fun for a while. The most in-depth stage, as you may have heard, is the space stage, and unless you want to cheat, you wont be able to unlock it until you guide the little cell thing you have to the creature to tribal to civilization to space. There's even a little achievement for doing it (cheating won't work :P). It almost feels like at times that the other phases are just stalling you from getting to the big prize, which is the space phase. But what I will say, and what I haven't said about a game in a long, long, long time, is that I get a feeling of wonder. I wonder what could be up in the sky? Could there be another alien race out there, wondering if there is anyother life, just like us? And the game has all these weird secrets, and there's actually such a deep story behind it all that, well, it confused me deeply. You might think being a zealot in the space stage just determines your special ability. But it turns out that there was a big story behind it, how this god formed the galaxy in his shape, including eight arms that were on his body, and how he had chosen certain planets to hold life that could worship him and eventually take over the universe and convince everyone to bow down to him, but soon, other types of empires had rised and began bending the balance of it, and promoting intelligent life by technological means (you can even do this, by the use of a monolith). Because of this, Zealot empires, not only in the story, but also in the game, are very aggresive toward "non-followers." And theres also a story for all the other "classes" in the game, and it shows how deep it goes. But the main story is about how the Grox, which is a huge empire known throughout the galaxy, are invading everyone and how you have to reach the center of the galaxy to find a secret that they had been keeping for hundreds of millions of years. You can become their allies (which is extremely hard, and if you do manage too, every other empire in the entire galaxy, even the ones you never knew about or your allies will become your enemies) or you can just try to reach the center of the universe without getting killed, which is the easiest way to go. But you will need all the max ship upgrades in order to get anywhere, so yeah :P. You can even go to Earth in the game, although its set in the distant future because there is only alien wildlife. My personally theory are that the Grox are the humans mutated, and it makes a lot of sense if you play the game. But enough about the story. In the end, spore can be fun for a while, but it offers little to no replayability, which effects the final score majorly.
