Good, gory beat-em-up fun for anyone as long as you can overlook the faulty mechanics.

User Rating: 5.5 | Splatterhouse PS3
Although the mechanics are unbelievably sub-par and the soundtrack is more annoying than appropriate, Splatterhouse can still be enjoyable given its positives. The battle system is actually pretty fun (even though it's button-mashy, for the most part) and the Splatterkills are a nice touch. Plus, the original game's cliche "car randomly breaks down in front of a spooky residence, hence subjecting the protagonist to the horrors inside" plot has been streamlined into one that is much more elaborate and captivating. The nudey pics as breadcrumbs from the damsel in distress are a nice touch, and the capability to play the old school Splatterhouse games tops everything off nicely. For the most part, it takes some perserverence to work around the gameplay mechanics that are so glitchy that I wouldn't be surprised if this game were to play on a PS1 rather than its intended PS3.
