Although Spider-Man is not entirely flawless, it's a fun game that ranks among the best superhero games from the PS1 era
Spider-Man is a pretty short game (it took me around 6 hours to complete on medium), but it's filled with lots of diversity and highly entertaining levels. Every level sees spiderman doing different things in a unique setting, whether it be on an urban rooftop or in an underground sewer, and the diversity between each of the level designs makes this a fresh and exciting game all the way through. The graphics are sleek and appealing given its time period, and the killer soundtrack and lovably corny voice acting suit the game perfectly. The story is also, while not anything too out of the ordinary, pretty captivating and fun.
I do have a few issues with the gimmicky camera and occasionally problematic control scheme (web-slinging can sometimes lead you in a direction you don't want to go), but I generally think that this is a solid and enjoyable game from start to finish. Although it's not the most challenging game out there, there are plenty of puzzles and difficult bosses that should make hardcore gamers satisfied. Frustration will set in a few times due to the sometimes 'iffy' controls, but it is thankfully not a crippling issue. All in all, this is a fun and recommendable PS1 action game. Definitely not a bad way to kill an afternoon.
