Finally, a properly made Marvel hero game!
Spider Man - Web of Shadows is just that and more but why did it take years for a game designer to make a properly made Spidy game? We may never know.
This game is meant to run on multi-core cpu's as the minimum spec's imply but with the new (1.1) service patch you can set most of the video settings down to run even a single core cpu like mine. I have a 2.6 ghz, P4 and it runs good although there are some slow downs here and there however, I'm not complaining knowing I'm just lucky to be running this game.
The game play consists of missions with various characters in the Marvel Universe in the city. You can also have heroes as allies to help you in missions in the game. The city map is huge and you can web swing any where you want from the top of sky scrapers to the city streets. You gain experience by points in collecting spider symbols throughout the city to upgrade your abilities. There is also a city map you can use in the main menu to help you track down locations of missions. The fighting moves Spider Man can do are really cool. You can crawl up the side of buildings or run, web swing villains to bring them to you or use web swing chain to attack from the air and hit your foes. Really, almost all the moves you see Spider Man do in the theater movies can be done here.
The sound is good although I get a sound loop ever now and then it's no big deal. You get all the cool action punch sounds and people on the streets cheer you on as you navigate pass them. To me this increases the immersion the game brings the player.
Although this game is a console port at heart the key board controls work really well even though the camera sometimes gets stuck on various city objects. If you play with a game pad you will need a XBox 360 controller and it will probably will work better than with the key board controls.
The game graphics are nice as well but like I said before if your PC is older you will not get the graphic details you may want in the game. I can set most settings on high except the resolution but usually have some slow downs here and there so make sure you have a decent rig (multi-core) to get the most out of the graphical details.
Overall, Spider Man - Web of Shadows has been a long time coming for fans. If you have any interest in Marvel Heroes and have a decent computer to play it on I highly recommend buying this game. Trust me, you will not regret it!
