The game's different style disorients it from the other console versions, but it still delivers a decent platformer.

User Rating: 6.5 | Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Amazing Allies Edition) PS2
Because I wanted another PS2 game, don't have any next gen consoles, and preferred a Spider-Man game, here we are at Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Amazing Allies Edition. Why is the game titled differently? Read on to find out.
The game is called Amazing Allies Edition because you can summon different allies at almost any time to help you out. They appear on the screen and basically wipe out all the other enemies on the screen. They range from Professor X to Storm to Luke Cage.
The game is set as a 2.5d sidescroller Beat-Em-Up. You go left and right beating up thugs, henchmen, and even Symbiotes. There are occasional bosses and mini-bosses along the way, each from the Spider-Man universe.
Attacks are mostly punch, kick, and webbing. You can mix up these moves however you like, and you can also purchase different moves. Another useful feature is that you can switch from the Red Suit to the Black Suit at any time by pressing select. Each suit has specific moves and power-ups that you can only use in that suit.
The main story is that(SPOILER SPOILER) during a fight with Venom, the Symbiote explodes and now Symbiote Pods are all over New York and other places. You have to help S.H.E.I.L.D.'s Nick Fury bulid a sonic weapon capable of eliminating the Symbiote matter.

The voice actor who did Spidey is pretty good. He's got a bunch of wisecracks in store for you along the way. I've actually had a laugh or two from them.
Another cool thing in this game is that it plays a little bit like an RPG. Along the way, you meet people you have to talk to. Let's say you come across a poster of a missing cat. You can choose a Friendly, Red Suit answer(Sure, I'll look for it), a neutral answer(I'll be on the lookout as I go) or a menacing, Black Suit Answer(Save a Cat? Who am I kidding? They can find it themselves.). Each time you give an answer, points are added to each suit's reputation, which is used to buy suit-specific moves.
There are some dislikes for the game that I have, and one of them is the slowdown. If there's a lot going on, the game will slow down to the speed of a 60's jalopy, or just pause altogether. It happens sometimes, but it can be lived through. Also, the controls can be slippery at times. And the instructin booklet isn't very helpful. If you have new PS2 games, you know what I'm talking about. Like, the book doesn't tell you that you need to press square to pick up civilians. You have to find that out in the first level, and if you don't get to that point, there's not a lot of hints to help you out along the way.
But, in the end, this really isn't as bad as everyone says. It's fun, cutscenes keep the story together(as well as the question moments), and there's a ton of moves that Spidey can use. If you still own a PS2, you might want to check this one out, but maybe the other Spider-Man games would be more for you.
